I agree. People forget that the new minority characters just don't do as well. And the old ones just don't have that "magic" of a Sipiderman, Superman, Batman etc ... At best, they are either not as heroic (Blade, Spawn) or they are more of a side character (Storm, Falcon, Luke Cage). They really tried with the Milestone characters and the like, but they didn't catch on as big as they needed to (after all, we have to be twice as good to be get just as much). And, if they want their headliners to continue to be at the top, those characters must evolve to like the emerging populace. These characters have to get browner and less male. They have to be made into the readership's image as that readership changes. You know, like how white people changed Christ to look like them. As long as they tell good stories and don't "hoodmatize" the black and brown versions of these characters, I'm all good with it.
Blade did extremely well, in fact he was the first Marvel character to do well signaling superhero movies as a franchise. I think if the writing is good and the character is relateable it can totally be done. I think Static Shock would be dope or even Black Lightning. Hell Storm could be dope too. Why just market to an American market anymore this shit is global now.
Blade was my shit...I loved the club music They could have definitely redone it...I mean shit they keep pumping life into Spider-Man The john Stewart green lantern is coming so that's a start But in all honesty...if you want more black heroes, you're going to need more black studios or big wigs willing to cater Remember blank man and that movie with Robert Townsend?
I had the bootleg on VHS...u know u did too in all honesty they could have made firestorm black in the flash, based off the legit Jason Rusch version But that would have clearly exceeded a certain 'quota' I guess we get to identify with detective west for the rest of the season
Full look at the deadpool film costume http://www.theverge.com/2015/3/27/8300753/here-is-ryan-reynolds-in-the-official-deadpool-costume Not sure what to expect for the film to be honest....
The Black Panther also did well. He is a prince. He is dignified and honorable. He is fast, strong, sharp and courageous. He just didn't get much of a chance onscreen like Blade(Wesley Snipes was originally considered for the role and the movie was to be directed by John Singleton, but he couldn't find the money).
John Slattery Speaks On Reprising an Older Howard Stark for ANT-MAN. Before English actor Dominic Cooper took on the role of Iron Man's father, Howard Stark, in the 1940s setting of Captain America: The First Avenger and the Agent Carter spin-off TV series, Mad Men alum John Slattery portrayed an older 1970s iteration of the character in Iron Man 2. With Slattery set to reprise the role later this year in Ant-Man, the actor talked recently talked with IGN about returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after all its success post-Iron Man 2. "It’s crazy, yeah," he said. "It’s the biggest set I've ever seen, I think, or I’ve ever been on certainly. It’s just a gigantic room and there’s numbers and girders and you think, is that what green screen looks like? And things change so fast. The way you did special effects last year can be completed outmoded in three months when they figure out some other way of generating some image. But yeah it certainly has become like it’s an industry. Marvel is just this unbelievable force now.” When asked if Dominic Cooper's portrayal of Howard Stark had any influence on his performance in the upcoming Ant-Man movie, John Slattery replied: "No, I haven't watched any of it. It took me two years to watch my own [Iron Man 2]. Well no, that’s not true. I've seen scenes and I've seen him in other things and he’s terrific. I've never met him and I’m not a very knowledgeable fan. I’m sure people have, 'How dare he play this when Dominic…?!' I don’t really get into that so much. My participation hasn't been that involved. I was there for a day and whenever we did Iron Man 2, it was not that much more involved this time." John Slattery as Howard Stark is expected to appear in flashbacks possibly alongside Hayley Atwell (Peggy Carter) that will ultimately help tie Ant-Man into the MCU already established.
The problem I have with "famous" actors in comic-book movies is the need the studios have to show the actors face. I'm almost positive they are going to find a reason to have Deadpool out of costume or with his mask off for an extended period of time.
Lots of people had this issue with thor If Loki got to wear his helmet how come thor couldn't wear his from time to time? Someone really wanted to show off hemsworth's long blond hair Thor in his helmet would have been badass
THIS. I don't think the actors even need to be "famous" for the studios to do it however. I think its just that whole Hollywood frame of mind to have actors' faces on screen as much as possible. And you know the really fucked up part about that is that it's an easy fix. They introduced the whole Thor "Armoring Up" for battle concept when he got his hammer back in the first Thor movie and then used it again in the Avengers. They can have him running around helmet less when not in armored combat mode and when he armors up for serious combat the helmet become part of the mix.
