Gaye Family now suing Pharell for HAPPY? Couldnt find the thread on the Robin Thicke lawsuit using my phone (maybe webbie can merge it later when l do)... Anyway...After winning $7 mil from Pharell and Robin for blurred lines...the Gaye family are gunning for Pharell's HAPPY. After listening to it, all l can say is Pharell is a music stealer, imo. TO HEAR IT (cant upload the YT right now) http://m.tmz.com/#Article/2015/03/13/marvin-gaye-blurred-lines-happy-lawsuit-pharell Do they have another case? (Just checked their poll...75% say give it a rest, 25% say sue. Whuuu? Easy for them to say forget about it.)
Lol ur just finding out how talentless these hacks really are, stealing material from the greats and peddling it like it's their genius It's pathetic but many others are doing it/have done it in some way, shape or form
Really though. He even stole the video idea off a YT blogger who had a popular dance video called be happy..something like that. I'll post it later. Beyonce prety much stole 'put a ring on it' off a singer from the sixties, right down to the dance movements. It's crazy, the disrespect. Right now in fact lm listening to a new song from some band that has straight out stolen the hook from Roger Troutman's 'Do it Roger"..They are singng it like they created the hook and style.:smt017
I have listened to both songs. My verdict is mixed. Blurred Lines is a notch faster than Got To Give It Up. I had read that when Marvin recorded Got To Give It Up, he added more percussion by tapping a pencil on a half full glass bottle of juice. Both songs are up tempo, upbeat and energetic songs that can be played at house parties. Well, in my humble opinion, I'd rather hear Got To Give It Up than Blurred Lines, because of the chords, beat, bass lines, and Marvin's soulful performance on that song. It brings back many old school memories.
considering what non money marvin gaye made back in the day and his extraordinary talent ...i am thrilled that his family won the lawsuit...i hope it sends a message that if you want to copy the right thing to do is to contact the family and pay them up front...
Yeah, that ruling won't stand up on appeal. They are two very different songs with different melodies and lyrics. They didn't copy anything other than the "feel." A good comparison would be Mark Ronson's record. It sounds like something The Time would have done back in the day. But's not a copy. it's its own thing. Same with, "Blurred Lines." I highly doubt anyone on that jury were musicians.
I actually agree with this. Pretty much all music at this point is flirting with the same issue and i dontnhear the copying, a gazzilkion songs thesendays have similar similarities woth old songs. f this goes through , all hell will break loose everywhere, even songs that were made 20 or 30; years ago would fall under this. But yes, its extraordinarily sad he never really made any money
i kinda disagree. the problem is that these guys use sampling technology. these guys are too lazy to come up with their own sound . when i heard the two songs together.....i was like its a wrap for these cats....pay up
Somebody altered Ain't That Peculiar? I hadn't heard it. I had once seen a YouTube clip with a couple of guys who made instrumental or extended mixes of Motown songs. They did a good job on a lot of those songs. I had heard a follow-up song to Let's Get It On called Keep Gettin' It On, on Pandora radio. I didn't know that Marvin had recorded a follow-up to Let's Get It On. If I were to record a cover of any song, there will be respect for the song and the artist who composed, performed and recorded that piece. This technology in recording is both a blessing and a blight in the music industry.
Michael Bolton was sued by the Isley Brothers for not crediting them for the song Love Is A Wonderful Thing(which the Isley's recorded first). Bolton had to pay and acknowledge the Isley's after the judge ruled in the Isley's favor. They stated that they wish Bolton well and that they check with them first before he or any artist record a song and palm it off as their own.
Interestingly, this lawsuit came about because Robin Thicke FIRST SUED Marvin's Estate over Blurred Lines.. http://m.ibtimes.com/pulse/blurred-...-thicke-pharrell-ti-sued-marvin-gayes-1845168
