It has been a harsh 24 hours for the members of Sigma Alpha Epsilon after a video was made public of its members on a bus singing a song. In the short 10 sec clip members can be heard singing the lyrics of a song they clearly had sung many times before. The national organization and University moved pretty quickly once the video came out and once verified that it was authentic. The President of the University has expelled the students and given them 24 hours to leave campus. The national organization also moved quickly and disbanded the frat immediately. Several members under police protection already have moved out. http://www.koco.com/news/ou-investigates-video-reportedly-showing-fraternity-singing-racist-chant/31686542
Co sign...they didn't waste any time...it's about time when there is proof that no discussion is needed...this will follow them to any other school they try to attend...shameful:sad: Unfortunately this song is more than likely sung in many Midwestern State chapters...land of the rednecks...SAEs in MT were all entitled jerks
It's still going on in private in frats and boardrooms all across the country. What's scary is that these are young White guys, supposedly from a new generation that hasn't grown up with all the same racist baggage from generations past. But when you're being taught this shit from home in the cradle, racism isn't going anywhere anytime soon. I'm still surprised to see that so many privileged White men have this secret hostility and resentment towards BM in general. Where I'm from that's called an inferiority complex.
Truly what is being revealed is the best thing about technology...there is less he said she said and more proof...less privacy but I think it's worth it...cameras are everywhere recording evidence
There's no more racism anymore, huh? Ain't always the 70 year old white dude you should be suspicious of.
True, just go to the comment section of any high trafficked website. You will see new definitions of racism.
The joys of being black in America Worrying about white people turning back the clock to 1955 Fuck yeah!
Props to the mole in SAE who decided he wasn't down with the program. The fact that someone with a sense of decency and conscience decided to rat out his frat brothers IMO is a very positive sign that some of these knuckleheads get it that being racist isn't cool.:smt025
I woke up to a text from my 26 year old son telling me the story and saying...."mom I know you always say it's still out there but just often more hidden than it once was. When I watched this, I realized how right you are. These are KIDS, like 19 years old! I'm sick to my stomach. How can we make it better?"
Sadly, I doubt racism will ever go away. What's more is the arguments over same sex marriages/couples and adopting children will come to an end or be more accepting in general as opposed to interracial couples who raise mixed children as well as the stereotype that black men are bad.

I liked how fast the university reacted as well as the fraternity. I'd say expel the students and then move on. There are quite a bit of issues with other items such as the kid that got shot dead with no gun in contrast to an MMA fighter going at it with the cops and not getting shot.
Another shooting in Madison three days ago...I agree the University needs to move forward...I would venture to say that SAE addressed this nationwide in hopes of stopping the bleed out...
Bloody morons. Let them feel the heat of disgust and digrace....they seriously have shit for brains. This link here is an emotiona,l gut-punched response from one of only two Black men to have ever joined that SAE chapter... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...acist-brothers-says-wishes-never-pledged.html ..Also, a black chef who worked at that SAE for 15 years, is now out of a job. People have rallied and set up two fund drives..so far $22,000 already.
I heard the frat brothers were there with dates. My bet is it was a date, and not a member, who exposed.
As of this posting that information is false, the students haven't been expelled. Per a statement to CNN that is not out of the realm of possibility for those involved, though they would have to be able to prove the identities of the individuals singing the song. http://www.cnn.com/2015/03/09/us/oklahoma-fraternity-chant/index.html The wake of the stain left on OU is gonna stretch far and wide.
Even better. It's never good to go along to get along. One of the unintended consequences of the ubiquity of smartphone cams saturating every level of everyday life. I heard someone comment yesterday that those frat guys didn't just make up this song on the fly, they recited it verbatim almost like a cheer. The song is probably much older than the members of that particular fraternity and reflects IMO a long standing culture of bigotry and intolerance
