They got everything except one thing... I'M TIRED OF HEARING HIP HOP-ESQUE TYPE MUSIC FOR BACKGROUND MUSIC WHEN IT COMES TO US LIKE THIS VIDEO. Come on now, that's not all we listen or relate to!

 

Frankly, I like to hear it all, so I can laugh about it.

When they act out their prejudices is where I get startled. That's when I blow a gasket. That's when I'm the hard as nails negro they so fear.

 

The other day my bm friend walked up on a couple standing in the middle of the sidewalk on a strip of college clubs and he whispered to the dude "excuse me" as he meandered around them on his way but the white girl jumped and yelled "WE DON'T WANT NO TROUBLE!" and my friend turned and looked at her and was like "what??"

 

Either your friend looks really imposing or she needs a tranquilizer.

 

That's what took him back: while he's 6'4" with 3' dreads, he's the gentlest gentleman, take-your-momma-to-church kinda guy ...so when I met up with him later and he told me what happened we laughed but in disbeleif

 

I guess I only mention it cause in truth it hurt me to see his feelings hurt. I think it hurt his feelings. I want to beat her up, since she's lookin for trouble.

 

I'll admit it does kind of hurt me too. But I feel desensitized towards racism in a way. I'm more inclined to play with it then be offended by it. We live in such a mixed and dynamic society, there will surely be friction.

The real consequences of racial prejudice are systematic. That's where I get offended the most, because it does affect people personally. Folks need to find some new stereotypes. The shit they say about the brothers is waaaay out of date. Well, most of it

I'm tired of the token black guy in video games being the biggest, meanest, most intimidating junkyard dawg they could find (seriously he looks like a bigger version of rampage Jackson)

You can tell these guys get their only exposure to 'blackness' from the nfl or something

They always include only one black dude and he's always a nut

 

This one of the situations where only being 5'9" can be a good thing. With dark skin, a shaved head, a beard, and sometimes wearing shades if I were that tall I'd be terrifying...and that's when I'm leaving work still dresses in a suit. In something like jeans and a polo shirt (which is what I normally wear) I'd have to watch my movements and actions 24/7.

While it may be a compliment, I dunno with some people.

 

See also: "You don't sound Black" and "you talk so proper!" That last one especially wants me to flip over tables, especially when I'm at work. If not for all the alcohol I drink I'd be flipping tables 24/7.

I occasionally get the proper shit around blacks. Around some whites it's "you don't talk black". Whateverrrrrrr.

 

I have heard those statements a lot over the years and I am amused because I enjoyed shattering the preconceived notions of those people who see me only as "the black guy."

Though my skin color is different, it doesn't change the fact that I am first and foremost a human being who is more than what a person sees on the surface.

 

One of my nicknames at work is Shaft but I have been called Ike on a few occasions.

It's even worse when it comes from black people. You would think we'd know better than that but I guess not.
