Ally? I thought that wingnuts hated France.

Aren't they getting what they deserve for not helping the valiant US effort in the "war on terror"? If they'd helped invade Iraq, none of this would have happened, right?

If I remember correctly, I spent the most time by Mount Olympus. I remember being at The Metéora monastery like it was yesterday, including their paintings (I have a thing for religious art).

But yeah, maybe a thread should be started, before I get in trouble for posting this stuff in here. OMG, I have this hilarious video to show you!

5 hours ago - The absence of Barack Obama or any other senior official from his administration .
    QUOTE:
Neither Present Obama, nor Vice President Biden, nor Secretary of State Kerry saw fit to be present in this symbolically iconic march of unity. True, the lame duck Attorney General, Eric Holder was in Paris, ostensibly for meetings related to the recent terror attacks in the capital of America's oldest ally. Yet, even he chose to be absent at the rally that so galvanized the rest of the world. In contrast, even Russia, at the nadir of its relationship with the European Union over the crisis in Ukraine, dispatched Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to participate in the rally."

Beautiful pic  of the Monastery (though no euro & greek chicks allowed!) I watched a few years ago a 2 part segment on 60 minutes
where they covered the mountain monasteries and their ties to Jesus. It was compelling.

    What is the video?...
(Im about to go watch the last 1/4 of Oregon and Ohio football, so I'll BBS )

Or bitching about how much Air Force One costs the taxpayer to fly Obama and "Moochelle" to Paris. Keep in mind these are the same people who renamed French Fries "Freedom Fries"

Disagree that it was a sign of disrespect Bliss, the US Ambassador was there for the photo and march, and the White House stated that "practical security was at the heart of the decision in whether to send Obama or Biden to Paris, the security requirements behind a presidential visit and even a vice-presidential visit are onerous and significant.”

"Perhaps it’s not fair to second-guess presidential security on something like this. Especially when you consider what we know about threats against Obama: He’s way more of a target, according to the Secret Service, than his predecessors."

    Saved me the trouble.....

Go ahead send the leader of the free world to France with shitty security, in the wake of a terrorist attack which raised their threat level

Obamas security has already been under attack for not being legit

This is where idiocy shines through. No republican politician would complain about Air-Force one. Michelle would not go to Paris, why would she? Michelle SHOULD NOT be there, so if she went, it would be a legitimate budgetary gripe.

Why do you care if they temporarily re-named potatoes from french fries to freedom fries? In WW1, sauerkraut was called liberty cabbage and frankfurters renamed to hot-dogs. Go figure.

The U.S ambassador? C'mon Loki...Biden should have been the lowest level of Officeeto send. France employed extraordinary security, positioning 10,000 police...no terrorhead was going to get within 50 miles of that city. (And still can't)
If they could sneak Bush into the M.E during a war, they could send Biden, at least.

Yeah, those were just as ridiculous, except that the French weren't even the US' opponents, they just disagreed on starting another war.

I know. So if the worst that happened was a re-naming potatoes, because your Ally strategically bounced on you in a great time of need....

I guess Obama showed them then, lol.

It looks like the White House is admitting they should have sent a higher profile person. I just agree with President Carter's comments below, and imo even with the extraordinary security measures the French took, the US President (the leader of the free world) brings a whole different level of security that was next to impossible to organize in such a short time.

“President Obama’s just come back from vacation, and I know how it is when you’ve been gone for a week or two,” former President Carter said in an interview with Yahoo Global News Anchor Katie Couric.

“Your desk is piled up, and he had other pressing problems to address. So I don’t think there’s any reflection on our country or no criticism is worthy.”

The White House itself took a different tack and said it had erred in its response to the Paris rally.

“We here at the White House should have made a different decision,” press secretary Josh Earnest said at a press briefing.

“I think it’s fair to say that we should have sent someone with a higher profile,” Earnest said, adding that “the president himself would’ve liked to have been there” but that the last-minute nature of the rally made logistics and security all but impossible.

Nonetheless, Carter said the U.S. government has expressed sufficient support for the French “to eliminate this threat in the future.”
