We negroes call that 'code switching'.

Anyway I still think there's something called a corporate look for Black professionals, and unless you own the company or work in a technical field, shoulder length hair or longer on any man isn't really considered professional.

Even in Jamaica dreads and plaited hair isn't seen as a corporate or professional look.

American BM have a much greater affinity for having their hair braided up or wearing it long than BM in any other part of the world, sort of like the Afro in the 1970s.

It's not so much an issue for me, especially for BW, but I do understand why an employer would have objections to it that aren't necessarily raced based.

In corporate America, EVERYONE is expected to a degree to conform to standard, like all good worker bees.

Great post, repped. Very eloquent and well reasoned response and suggestions on how to make things better.

Bliss...if that had happened in a neighboring town to Denver...I highly doubt the broncos would show up either...ferguson is not a safe place to be right now nor has it been for the last three months...you wouldn't even catch any of these yahoos here beating their chest showing up to support ferguson

However a nationally televised NFL game is a platform and I am certain they knew that getting fined was a possibility

They didn't have to do it...so the way I look at it they are at least keeping a conversation alive :smt115 without burning down businesses

You already told us you are uppity living in gated Westchester ...born with a silver spoon in your mouth...daddy makes good money...we got cars in the garage...blah blah blah with your braggin ass...

They would have you for lunch in ferguson with that big mouth of yours...you start spouting off to the wrong person ...they will be lighting your butt on fire

lol silver spoon? Hardly. I wish
And worked my balls off to live where I live missy.
But in all seriousness I think you really don't pay attention to the character a lot of the dudes on here if you think a lot of us wouldn't protest in a similar situation.
I was in the protests for Treyvon last summer and posted videos of it.
I would have protested in last week in the city but to be honest I have my reservations and my focus isn't the focus of most of my peers.
If it were in Denver I would ask you to join me Lippy. Shit like this can't be glossed over.

No one is glossing anything over...is it fair to all the hard working black business owners in ferguson to have this going on for three fucking months ...these people need to get back to making a living at some point...

With all due respect, the guys here do this to Paniro, Arch and GL (at times). Whenever their view differs from the majority, their frame of mind, their loyalty, even their skin color is questioned. So, here anyway, equality does go hand-in-hand with conformity.

As for code-switching, I think we all do this to an extent. Most educated people have a "professional" voice/vocabulary they employ when necessary.
