How do you know the cops didn't take the orange thing off the gun???

If the cops went into the situation telling themselves we're going to take 30 minutes or longer to figure out what's going on here, that kid would still be alive.

He was a kid. They knew he was a young child on site. Talk to him at least. Find out if he's from around here, where does he live??

Give him the benefit of the doubt.

Use loudspeakers if you're afraid to potentially be in range of a shooter.

Maybe the cam footage will be released but I doubt we see anything that justifies their actions.

Those cops overreacted which IMO means they exhausted the least amount of options before shooting.

Like others are saying, it's all in the training and the way cops approach these situations

If 'talking down' a little fucking kid like a grown up to a child, doesn't cross your mind when you enter a situation like this, something is really wrong with the mindset of America

Good posts boba. How likely is it that a 12 year old would be skilled with a real hand gun anyway. How many actually go to the range. Many adults lack the skill of hitting a stationary target let alone a real life adult. Its just irrational for a trained officer to randomly have fear of a child.

I believe it is standard protocol when responding to a report of a person brandishing a gun and upon arrival seeing the gun, is to tell them to put their hands up, i think if he did that instead of reaching for the gun, a conversation like you suggested might have ensued.

I think the use of a loudspeaker is an excellent idea because that would eliminate so many split-second shooting decisions made, due to a "fear of one's life".

in this case the rookie cop has not been absolved of criminal liability as of yet, from my understanding. Regardless, it's sickening for all because l'm sure no-one wanted the tragic outcome that occurred.

From what l read, the kid was not alone. He was with others, so they can definitely confirm or deny that. I am only citing from what l read from the comments from the family lawyer, as well as police reps that there is video of the encounter.... and they said the bright orange safety was missing. We will eventually see if this is the case.

I also read that the city has formulated a new manufacturing law that every type of non-lethal gun is painted bright orange or yellow to distinguish itself from a real gun because of this shooting.

Which is funny yanno because no one ever slapped a bright, colorful camo onto a real weapon before

I think youre onto something there.

Though there are hot pink ones... and there is a clear blue ones that I I've liked for a while so they do color them. however mandatory neon colors is a great idea for real guns if that is what you meant... or were you being sarcastic...?

I'm merely bringing up the fact that savvy criminals will start making their weapons look like 'accepted toy standard,' in an event to throw people off guard

Oh wow, totally missed that. Flew right passed me, excelent foresight there. . But you know they say to catch a criminal you have to think like one, so congrats. :smt002

Common sense should come up....they called saying a kid is waving a gun....possibly a toy. No telling how long he was waving the gun before the call and time of arrival.

Question....if he was dangerous why are others hanging around

Why havent shots been fired and someone hit?

Last you mean to tell me you couldnt tell it was a kid?

There you go blaming white people. How dare you bring up race you're alienating all the white women on here. Maybe if some these Damn Negro kids actually pulled up their pants and stopped wearing hoodies we wouldn't have this situation. Poor coo was only doing his job. Well let's wait and see what the evidence says.

There is no such thing as a black child we got from infants to full grown adults in three years. Enough with your trickery.

Do you see how white women nowadays are out here reminding everybody – in every possible way – that a woman can dress however she likes and go wherever she so desires (at whatever time) expecting to not be harrassed. No victim-blaming they say, and people little by little everday are accepting this narrative (which I'm cool with tbh).

Meanwhile people are out here saying that black children that come out with a bb gun and act childishly with it can't blame anyone but themselves for getting shot. So we gotta blame the parents (who probably didn't know that the kid took the orange cap out the gun) and the kid (for making a mistake some kids do) while the cops get full reign to be jittery because of their racial notions.

The videotape of the shooting is available now; they played a portion of it on MSNBC this afternoon. The cops didn't seem to even get out the car to investigate . . . the tires were still rolling when they shot that 7th grader down with the quickness.

I mean they rolled up on him by driving onto the parkgrounds to the Gazebo where the kid was . . . they could have parked on the street and then advanced on foot to the guy which would have afforded them time to assess the situation more accurately. They basically shot him on sight and could barely be bothered to even get out the car before they dropped the kid :smt076

Edit: Here is the footage (look how long it took the cops to use lethal force once they got to the scene): http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2014/11/cleveland_police_officer_shot_1.html

Sadly the video 'has no audio'

I wonder if that's going to be the case with these 900 dollar cams that cops are attaching to their uniforms

For 900 dollars a pop, forgive me for being skeptical about audio being indiscernible or non existent to begin with
