This is nothing new to my area at all

    Philly schools are just shitty

I couldn't imagine sending kids to these public schools, which is sad because my mom always told me how better they were back in the 70s

If you're lucky ur kid will get accepted to a school for the gifted or another top tier academic institution. They have their own flaws but you NEVER hear about shit like this

And while people frown upon the idea of schools being a pipeline to prison, these stories don't make it any easier to change that

    No respect for authority whatsoever

Seriously wtf is going on with these students

Like I said, I'd never make a conscious decision to raise kids in philly

It's not too bad if ur an adult (ok who am I kidding..people are being kidnapped) but if ur looking for a prospective school district....

    Do

    Not

    Want

What is going on with these students...can be traced back to a lack of and/or bad parenting. No child accountable to an actively participating parent or parents in their life, would dare behave in this manner.

    Yikes! Scary & insane!

I agree that the problem starts at home due to a lack of solid parenting. You combine that with a shitty school system, and the worst is all you can expect out of these kids.

Something is up.....shit....I wouldn't dare think about hitting anyone, let alone a teacher

My mom and grand parents would tear my ass up, lol

Yes...I came from a family of spankers and I turned out proper

Forget all that psycho babble that says otherwise

Just better watch out for that one-hitter quitter

Metal detectors were common back in the 90s when I was coming up

Sadly we don't typically hear about issues with violence in school, until some random........infrequent incident where a kid decides to shoot up the place

Then you have month long discussions trying to figure out what went wrong

The fact of the matter is that public schools are violent places year round, especially in the inner cities and really need more attention and debate

Why pay taxes for a school system you wouldn't send ur children to?

68? Oh my goodness. He could have killed him. He probably has a concussion.

I hope Eric Holder sees this before he bails.
I'm betting this isn't the student's first rodeo with abhorent or violent behavior. You don't go from zero to 60 and feel that emboldened to knock a teacher out.
But because the DOJ now investigates teachers for wanting to suspend or expell, they have likely been hesitant to punish him harshly.

I bet no video, and he would have gotten a suspension only.

It's so hard being a teacher in an inner city school, when you're dealing with the truly hard rock cases among the student population.

Still even among inner city schools most students who actually ATTEND classes everyday aren't the problem.

Where things get tricky is when you're dealing with that borderline criminal element or gangbangers who go to school to pass time from hustling on the streets.

As bad as it was seeing that 68 year get knocked out, that's still a freak occurrence.

I know in D.C. several schools have private security and sometimes D.C. POs cruising the hallways just to keep things in check.

Damn shame but in many cases it's a necessity.

IMO the charter schools should be used to warehouse all those knucklehead kids bringing down the overall learning experience for everyone else.

Let the legitimately striving students stay at the public schools.

Don't you guys do vouchers or something? I'm sure that parents that are sending their kids to private schools have their taxes going there.

Times like this has me hoping that I can make enough to home school or hire a private teacher.

The violence and madness isn't a freak occurrence when your schools have notorious reputations

I grew up in philly and went to these schools

They're fucking war zones that I would hope no kid would have to endure
