When the Allies came to the town of Peenemunde, Germany, the site where the V-1 and V-2 rockets(the world's first ballistic missiles) were built and launched, the scientists and technicians working there surrendered. Among them were Walter Dornberger and Werner Von Braun. The Germans had many firsts in warfare, they had the jet fighters and the first modern assault rifle, which if it was mass produced, would've changed the outcome of the war. Even the helmets of the German army(which also resembled a Samurai helmet) were an improvement and the design of helmets for armed forces around the world. And because of the Cold War, the government at the time needed their know-how when dealing with threats. And some did not cut their ties with the Nazi party afterward. A friend of mine told me that when he was stationed in Germany, a lot of young German boys have joined the US Army. Most of the joined because the US Army paid more than the German Army did at the time. Even in the film Commando, Arnold Schwarzenegger's character Colonel John Matrix, was a German citizen who joined the US Army. German scientists were recruited into the space program in the early days before NASA was established. Nothing like this surprises me.
