It takes more balls to end your life in whatever insane way you do it and face the great beyond, than to live life, which is the default thing to do anyway

Wanting people to live through their pain just because YOU can't let them go is selfish

Anytime someone creates a macabre, grizzly suicide scene, society as a whole especially those in power who could promote more humane ways to die, should be in disgust

Who has to power over a person's decision to die? The dying person, or those who are opposed to suicide and want to try in vain to save this person?
Like I mentioned about the Samurai, if they feel it is the way to go, they would disembowel themselves, and if they were to go full bore, they would slash their throats if they are able to do so.

Internet buzz is half and half on this issue. Some believe that if a person were to commit suicide, they should do it in private and not announce it.

What is a more humane way to die? I am not sure. I know that there are drugs that will kill you without pain(I am sure that such a drug was used).

I guess when one who feels that person die like Brittany's husband has done, it is an experience that is, to put it this way, unique. There is no telling what was shared during those last moments. And it is those moments that will stay with that person forever.

Yeah whenever people bring up suicide as a cowardly act, I promptly remind them that suicide in some cultures (and some professions ie spies), was/is a way to die with dignity or express a level of protest

When someone decides to exit out of a shitty life, they are in fact protesting

No one should be forced to live in poverty or on the streets, for refusing to conform to a society in which they had no choice in being birthed into in the first place

And since no one wants a 'welfare state,' why not let societal dissidents end their lives with a humane exit

Because assholes not only love being miserable but they want to make sure its shared rather than actually fix anything.
It's the same reason why so many ridiculous right wing (yeah sorry its only ring wing people who express these emotions) would rather people starve and be sick than raise taxes on people who don't need the money anyway.
Some people are just plain fucking awful.

Lol cuz nothing says 'I don't really need this cash and I'm going to make sure everyone knows' like a 20mil home for a family of 4, or a garage full of million dollar cars

    I'm just saying, shit.....

If u don't want to truly end poverty, hunger and homelessness, at least be willing to mercifully relieve people from this life if they want it

Unless of course you like reading stories of suicide by cop, train jumpers or people playing chicken in traffic

I had an uncle develop cirrhosis from a lifetime of drinking. He was presented with the option of getting a liver transplant but decided to check out instead. Perhaps he felt that someone who hadn't pissed away their health with heavy drinking deserved it more? Not sure.

It's not quite the same but the parallels are there. If you feel mortality breathing down your neck, then ending it is a respectable option.

You have a personal example of what I was thinking. Your unc could've lived quite a bit longer had he took the transplant and changed his ways drastically, I've actually seen that happen many a time because my mother was involved in liver/kidney transplantation in a big way from the inception. It could be said that your unc gave up his right for a longer life to someone else, thus ending his...a form of suicide?...maybe...but I see him as a unsung hero...him owning his lifestyle, and giving the gift of life to someone that may lead a life more conducive to maintaining the gift. Ultimate truth, ultimate sacrifice imho.

Author Patricia Cornwell of the Kay Scarpetta novels wrote a scene in which her daughter's lesbian lover was really Kay's arch enemy Carrie Grethen. Kay's daughter was very depressed and was threatening suicide. Kay tells her daughter that suicide is bad. It is the final 'fuck you' to the people you leave behind. I couldn't remember which novel that scene was in, but I do remember it quite well.

I think those right wingers have that Scrooge mentality.

"Are there no prisons? No workhouses?"
"Let them die. It'll decrease the surplus population."

Yes, Ebenezer Scrooge said it. Maybe they would have a wakeup call coming to them real soon.
