"Slave-backed bonds "generated revenue for investors from enslavers' repayments of mortgages on enslaved people," Baptist writes. "This meant that investors around the world would share in revenues made by hands in the field. Thus, in effect, even as Britain was liberating the slaves of its empire, a British bank could now sell an investor a completely commodified slave: not a particular individual who could die or run away, but a bond that was the right to a one-slave-sized slice of a pie made from the income of thousands of slaves." http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/23/the-half-has-never-been-told_n_6036840.html?cps=gravity
Imagine the look on my face when I read about how much revenue was generated in America through slave labor I love huffpost Slavery goes deeper than just 'oh they just just did meaningless tasks' Slavery played a huge role in the economy..don't ever let people downplay what our ancestors did
I've heard this over the years, with other bizarre stories of modern enslavement of African Americans, African Ameticans still "share cropping," and slave owner decendants still employing the decendants of original slave laborers.
You dumb motherfuckers don't deserve reparations, you'd only waste it on Jordans and strip clubs anyway.
lol shit I wish I was worth that much. Even dogs aren't being shot in the street the way black dudes are.
When you think about it, that was some deep shit When you condition people to believe an entire race is legitimately less than human, u open the doors for all sorts of atrocities Gotdamn man, gotdamn But yeah I seen people say that slaves really didn't build America and that all they did was do simple, bullshit labor that wasn't that big of a deal Then I looked at that huffpost other half of slavery article and seen how much cash flow was created through slave labor and was blown away
Black people literally built this country without so much as a thank you. Shit for all their efforts they were killed and marginalized. Human beings are literally insane creatures. You gotta wonder if advanced species have observed us shook their heads and just moved on.
Did you see the PBS show last night where Nas and Angela Bassett were confronted with their ancestral slaves lives? Fascinating and moving
This very much! I feel there are efforts by neo-nutzi right-wingers to undermine black accomplishments and try to pin the blame on us and other non-whites for their own failures in life, so they can create an aura of superiority amongst themselves.
Love, love, LOVE "Finding Your Roots". Skip is the man, they research and profile people from all backgrounds, as a history buff myself I find every episode riveting.
