I feel sorry for anyone who has trouble kicking a habit or getting the monkey off of their back. You're totally right, though, Petty. If he was black Fox News would use the story to highlight black community 'dysfunction' until the Christmas season.

To the average person, having the privilege of serving as an officer in the armed forces would mean a lot to them

Working your way through the rigors of college, being blessed with good health to get in, dealing with the training etc etc

Only to let something like drugs get you booted out, which will leave a permanent mark on ur record

Whether it's coke or crack, some people just need addiction therapy

I know at my hospital, we are encouraged to help coworkers with drug habits, instead of casting them aside, handing them over to the police, risking their job or whatever else people do when someone does something they don't approve of

Maybe that's just being humane, to want to help people through tough times or maybe that's just the nature of healthcare as a profession

 

It sounds like you guys approach the problem from a health care, rather than a law enforcement, standpoint. I think that's as it should be.

I was taught this approach during orientation many years ago and it's changed the way I view that issue

Growing up ur kinda taught to vilify drug users through methods such as the war on drugs, or DARE campaign ads that crucified drug users

Ur kinda expected to help put them away in some prison or something

In no way, shape or form was i taught to reach out to users if it was interfering with their life or work by adults in my circle

 

Ever since Nancy Reagan's D.A.R.E./Just Say No campaign, they started drilling the idea that users deserve hatred and scorn, not help. I remember that since middle school.
