14-Year-Old Louisiana Boy Fatally Shot by Police

Cameron Tillman’s family told reporters that the young boy was shot about four times in the back.



A 14-year-old Louisiana boy is dead after he was fatally shot by a Terrebonne Parish deputy Tuesday night in Houma, La., WWL TV reports.

According to the report, Louisiana State Police are involved in the investigation of the shooting. Louisiana State Police Trooper Evan Harrell told reporters that it is still unclear what happened, but he did confirm that the young boy, Cameron Tillman, was killed in the shooting. Harrell also added that some type of weapon was recovered "in close proximity" to the boy's body, according to the news site.

"We actually took over the investigation due to the officer-involved shooting," Harrell added. "What transpired on the scene is being processed right now ... and we ask everybody to not make snap-judgment calls because we want to do a very thorough investigation because the officer and the 14-year-old deserve a thorough investigation."

What started the tragic scenario was apparently a 6 p.m. 911 call about suspects with weapons entering an abandoned house.

According to Cameron's brother Andre Tillman, who was inside the house, someone had knocked on the door. Cameron answered it.

It's not like me being with ww is new, been doing it all my life, but it's to the point where she feels any attention is going to result in death of some form. John Matteson, Distinguished Professor of English at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, talks about slavery within the context of American law, and how slavery may have helped frame today’s attitudes and behaviors.



Recent events haunting black communities like ghosts of a violent era that many thought long gone—such as the tragic deaths of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner and Michael Brown—hark back to a collective memory of enslavement.

John Matteson, Distinguished Professor of English at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City, believes that the violence exhibited today is contextually linked to slavery and has become part of the culture over time.

These are some of the connections that Matteson hopes students taking his free eight-week course, Literature & Law of American Slavery, will be able to absorb and question as they go through his class.

However, to the professor, the issue of violence and how it is ingrained into the collective black American psyche is much more far-reaching than just law enforcement or vigilante justice. It even affects the family. Matteson referenced an article by Michael Eric Dyson that was published in the New York Times, in which Dyson talks about the NFL’s Adrian Peterson and the backlash he has received for beating his young son.

Of course, these matters aren’t solely about race; they also have a lot to do with the generational nature of violence. “I would suspect also that when you find a violent cop, or somebody who’s excited about the prospect of vigilante justice, I would guess … that you’re going to find that those abusive cops and the gun-toting nuts are very often people who themselves have experienced abuse,” Matteson said.

Cardinals Fans Get Ugly In Clash With Ferguson Protesters

This guy right here, the one with "I am Darren Wilson" taped onto the back of his Cardinals jersey—an homage to the Ferguson, Mo., police officer who shot an unarmed teenager named Mike Brown to death in August—was at the Cardinals game last night. He, along with many other Cardinals fans, clashed with a small group of protesters who want to see Wilson prosecuted. The guy in the Darren Wilson jersey wasn't even the worst part.

Here is a video of some of the protest from last night, via Argus Streaming News. It's rather long, so I'll point out some of the egregious cases of Cardinals fans being shitty below.

We start off with a bang. At about the 22-second mark, an old white Cardinals fan begins telling the protesters—all of whom appear to be black—that they need to get jobs. He looks right in the camera, proudly, and says, "That's right! If they'd be working, we wouldn't have this problem!"

At about the 1:30 mark, the crowd of Cardinals fans begin drowning out the protesters' chants with a "Let's go Cardinals!" chant. Well, they could be saying worse things...

At the 2:40 mark, they start saying much worse things. The "Let's go Cardinals!" chant has turned into a "Let's go Darren!" chant. Cool.

At 8:10 one of the Cardinals fans calls one of the protesters a "crack head" and tells him he needs to go see a dentist.

At 8:50 the "Let's go Cardinals" chant starts up again.

At 9:05 one of the Cardinals fans starts telling one of the protesters that if he ever "saw him in the street" he would "look at the ground." They argue for a bit about who would and would not whip whose ass.

At about 10:25 a small blonde lady starts yelling at the protesters: "We're the ones who gave all y'all the freedoms that you have!"

At about 12:14 an older female Cardinals fan begins telling the man holding the camera, who claims he is a former Marine, that she doesn't believe he is a veteran. The conversation does not go well for her.

At 14:54, the Cardinals fans start in on a very loud "USA! USA! USA!" chant.

At 16:07, another Cardinals fan begins yelling at the protesters, telling them that they need to get jobs.

At 16:43, a female Cardinals fan begins chanting "Africa! Africa! Africa!" at the protesters.

At 17:10 a Cardinals fans tells the protesters that they need to remove their hats and pull up their pants.
