There was a time in the U.S.A.(1920's-1950's) when a full-figured woman was considered desirable because the full-figured women were healthy(although it all depended on the woman). Skinny girls needed to eat constantly and it was a problem for the man who was the bread winner. But it wasn't until the advent of the fashion model and Hollywood starlet, did the thin woman become more desirable and the full-figured woman became the comic relief.
