WWBM,what's a good credit card I should apply for that has good benefits and bonuses. Flight points or buy back money?

I just checked my credit score and I've improved it a LOT since two and a half years ago between car loan payments and payments for my apartment. Equifax is reporting me at 735.

The thing is I don't have any credit cards though and that would improve my credit because the other two report me lower due to not much credit history (outside my car).

    Any help appreciated.

Do you really need a credit card?

In case of an emergency it'd be useful.

I would try your local bank. You see and talk with these people weekly I would assume, right??? Get straight talk face to face with the bank who issues the credit card. Look for a non-variable APR rate credit card.

Is this a debit visa/master or the actual credit card you're wanting? As for that, look for no annual fee and a low interest rate.
In case of an emergency, I would start a savings strictly for that. I wouldn't risk possibly aquiring debt fixing that emergency.

I have a capital one that gives me cash back on all purchases...no annual fee...I don't pay interest on it because I pay it every week...

I no longer use a debit card and caution all of you going forward...if someone cleans are your bank account you are screwed...someone charges on your credit card you have recourse with the bank

Or, you can always use cash. Debit cards are so sneaky, merchants can charge you double on purchases sometimes.

If you want to build your credit score you almost have to have at least one credit card

And you have to use it ...just having a credit card doesn't do anything to your score...you have to use it and then show good payment history...use it...pay it...repeat and watch your score go up...

Yes. The objective is to do as you said above. They'll increase your limit but you should maintain a low balance. Bingo.

I got a few, I been with a few big banks issuer and big box store card issuers since the early nineties. Pick a credit card issuer that offers car rental insurance when you travel, capital one platinum offers this. When your done renting, pay in cash at the end of your stay.:yawinkle:

keeping your balance below 35% each month, if you go over 35% you are doing yourself more harm than good.

True, but not a lot of cards, and not a high credit limit on each. The fear is you will have the potential to max all out and not be able to repay all.

What about renting a car for the time your car breaks down? You can't rent a car without a CC.
Or what if you need emergency lodgings?
Or specialized medical/dental care? Example: if you don't have insurance, dentists won't do root-canal unless you can pay them right away.
