while i believe gayness is a sin he is a pioneer....agree with it or not.... not too long ago people were beating the shit out of gays with no punishment...even today there are laws that say you can be fired for being gay. you ok with that?
Pioneer of what? He hasn't played 1 fucking down of pro ball and he's not the first gay nfl player. Nobody deserves to be assaulted or fired for their beliefs, yet we really didn't need to know who he is sleeping with. How does that pertain to football?
first openly gay...not the first gay. do alot of mature people care? no...they care about you getting the job done. this issue you fail to get and dont want to get is the right to be themselves openly without repercussions from hate-mongers and their discrimination.
Congratulations to Michael Sam. The kiss between him and his boyfriend after the moment he was selected is as natural as kisses between heterosexual couples. His family did not share in his joy because of his orientation. So, his boyfriend was his family. He was joined by his agent and other friends. In the area of sports, it is about that athlete's talents and nothing more. I think we have to divorce ourselves from the locker room mentality that has permeated in sports for decades.
Get upset if he announces that he's gay, upset with him for not informing you he was gay all those years. It's a lose-lose situation.
The issue you fail to get is who you're laying down with has no effect on your on-field performance. He came out to his college teammates, and not the media at the beginning of the CFB season and won DPOY. Why couldn't he have kept that in his inner-circle in the pros? He just wanted that spotlight. New reality show coming, endorsements and media coverage. He has to take everything that comes with it,good and BAD. Doesn't upset me...just thought it unnecessary. Show up on Sundays and put QBs on their ass,do all the other stuff off the field. Yes,because every news outlet and sports channel spends an entire week repeatedly showing a hetero couple passionetly kissing and smashing cake in each others after a player is drafted.
Sam had to come out before the draft. He was the SEC DPOTY and normally those guys always get drafted no matter how good they are. Sam already came out to his teammates at Mizzou and it didn't cause a problem in the lockerroom, but if Sam didn't announce he was gay before the draft and NFL teams passed him over because of homophobia, the NFL would make all kinds of excuses about how every NFL team didn't think he was good enough to pick ONCE in a 7 round draft. Coming out instead of staying in the closet prevented the NFL from using his sexuality against him. He barely got drafted as it is. What did you think would have happened if Sam kept quiet about it but every team still knew??? BTW no one is telling you that you have to LIKE seeing to gay men kiss.:smt100 It bothered me when I was 10. It bothers me today. But we all need to be tolerant enough to accept the fact that they do indeed exist and have rights like all the rest of us. What I like about the Sam story is that it blows up the myth that all gay men are effeminate or soft. There are gay men in the Navy SEALS.
please correct me if im wrong but werent you the one who were disputing him being titled as a pioneer
then ...... since YOU....brought up the pioneer issue that means he IS the first so thus he is a pioneer. also, the "kiss" hell of course there was an agenda...the tv deal with oprah. he shouldve waited till after he made the team and played for a year...the optics of it (THATS JUST ME) when he came was a serious chess move...think about it. the miami bullying issue. think on that
I could give a rat's ass if this dude is gay or not...what pisses me off is him stealing the thunder from all the other players in the draft...this is not the story i want to see on espn
lol...yeah. i blame the media on that....you know he was playing it up with the kiss. i do however think he might make the team but it would have been a good idea to come out after he made the team. again he made a serious chess move after the miami bullying situation. disagree? look at that miami player tweeting disdain about the "kiss"...what at happen to him
Michael Sam didn't have those cameras set up in house. ESPN put those cameras there like they do for dozens of top NFL prospects. People act like that kiss was staged but it happens all the time during every NFL draft. People don't notice because it's a random, normal heterosexual kiss. If someone stole anyone else's draft moment, it was ESPN by re-playing that kiss over and over.
also remember a deal with oprah was sealed before the draft. rams said they didnt know.they called off the show when it came out
Like I posted on Facebook a few days ago, are they going to preface this guy's name with "the first openly gay football player" every single time they mention him? I think you'd have to be living under a rock to not know who this guy is and that he's gay. I wish him the best, but dear God, I'm tired of hearing the phrase "the first openly gay football player". Alright already. We KNOW. Jeez.
Bet you ain't tired of hearing 'the first black'. Can't wait for the first african american polygamist leader to be honored by the NAACP.
