You're not missing anything on that front from what little I've seen. Ultimate Spider-Man, Avengers Assemble and Hulk & Agents of SMASH are all jokes... literally. They all try to play up the humor elements over action to move the story. The live action Guardians of the Galaxy movie looks like it will be an attempt at that same formula.
I recall meeting an inker for the Green Lantern comic books at a comic book convention(it was my very first time going to one and I was pleasantly surprised at what I saw there)and we talked about the need to make Green Lantern for the big screen. He agreed. I had predicted that composer James Newton Howard would do the score(I was expecting a grand orchestral score like John Williams or Jerry Goldsmith, but Howard crafted a score similar to Ramin Jawadi's score for Iron Man). I saw a lot of potential in the character. I even envisioned the film to be titled The Green Lantern Corps as a way of introducing all the Green Lanterns selected from Earth. That would've worked, in my opinion.
I watched maybe one or two episodes from Ultimate Spider-Man and it just didn't do the franchise justice. And actually, years back, MTV actually had its own Ultimate Spider-Man TV series and it was in 3D cel-shaded animation and it was pretty good. It was clearly geared more towards the MTV crowd, but the show seemingly got all of the elements of the franchises right and fresh at the same time. It was short lived, but it was pretty promising. As for Guardians of the Galaxy, I'll keep a cool head on the whole ordeal and just assume the advertisements make it seem like it more comical than action based. Besides, if it's tied into the Avengers, then it's likely the whole thing will connect to Thanos and the infinity gauntlet story...albeit in a somewhat different nature. That would work much better, and would better serve as a great opening to the Green Lantern franchise. It's sort of sad, the movie had potential, but it completely belly flopped.
If they had not only Hal Jordan, but John Stewart, Kyle Rainer(I think that was his name),Guy Gardiner and the first Green Lantern from the 40's and 50's gathered together to take on Parallax, they would've destroyed Parallax completely. That would've been something to see.
Zack Snyder Will Direct Stand-Alone Justice League Film From Washington Post. com. IT WASN’T a matter of whether we would get a Justice League movie, really. It was just a matter of when. But with the next Superman film still two years out, it’s swell that close-to-the-vest Warner Bros./DC Entertainment is letting us peek at a few more of its playing cards. At last, we have confirmation that a stand-alone Justice League is a real thing. And — hit us again, dealer — also the news that “Man of Steel’s” Zack Snyder will direct DC’s attempt to counter the power assembly that is “The Avengers” films. WB honcho Greg Silverman (official business-card title: president of worldwide production) told the Wall Street Journal blog Speakeasy that his studio has “set plans to make a ‘Justice League’ movie,” the paper reported Sunday evening. (Variety later got its own confirmation.) There’s no set release date and no set script. What we have, exactly, is the distant but reassuring promise that by the time our next American president is nearing the end of his/her first term, we may nearly have a Justice League film. Hey, Zack Snyder can only direct these things so quickly. (Besides, Marvel Studios may only have made a few more billion dollars by then.) More immediately, in the middle-distance, is the “Man of Steel” sequel that may or may not be released under the title “Batman vs. Superman” in 2016, with Henry Cavill returning as Supes; Gal Gadot donning Wonder Woman’s golden lasso and Aegis bracers; and Ben Affleck trying to prove legions of postadolescent-in-name-only doubters wrong as the franchise’s older, paternal Batman. Silverman wouldn’t say which “Justice League” members might appear in the film besides the big DC triumvirate. What he would coyly tell the Wall Street Journal is: “It will be a further expansion of this universe. ‘Superman vs Batman’ will lead into ‘Justice League.’ ” (And no, Silverman apparently didn’t explain why he transposed the heroes’ names in the title of Snyder’s 2016 sequel. In this poker game of teasers, was that meant as a “tell,” too?) Meanwhile, another WB executive, Sue Kroll (official biz-card title: president of worldwide marketing) played her own card, telling the Journal of a possible stand-alone Wonder Woman/Diana Prince film: “With the right script, that could be viable. The world is ready for her.
I'm psyched. I re-watched Man of Steel last night so I'm set to give the DC universe another look. It had more of a sinister edge than previous Superman films. I know a lot of posters aren't fans of the film b/c of the carnage during the Supes/Gen. Zod fight, but I liked it.
They are definitely setting themselves apart from Marvel in many ways, which I think it's a good thing. They are playing catch up, but I think if they can make their route of convergence to work overall, we could see a huge war between DC and Marvel fans brewing.
Nope. We get Cyborg. He'll be the Falcon of the Justice League. Loyal inexperienced sidekick. I would have loved John Stewart. But, instead, we get Hal Jordan's dull white bread ass. No one wants to see him but fan boys. Don't they get that? I'd prefer Kyle Rainer to Hal Jordan any day.
I recalled a couple of years ago that the Justice League Movie was not going to have Superman and Batman in the lineup because of the upcoming films with Superman and Batman.
Oops, my bad. Thought you were talking about the planned Justice League movie. Damn public school education acting up again.
