today we twitter, facebook, instagram, pinterest and post on random forums...what is the obsession to post everything about your life? i can see doing it occasionally...sharing little tidbits...but for some it seems extreme like they are almost so deprived in their own lives that they must seek attention from people they don't even know?

i like getting a little tidbit from random people every once in awhile but when the same people over share it makes me wonder...why are they so obsessed with themselves? it is the desire for non famous people to write an autobiography?

    I don't twitter
I rarely post anything on facebook but enjoy things posted by friends...the ones that post selfies every day i remove from my feed
    I don't instagram
Pinterest is the best sharing ever!!!
Forum's - the jury is out on this one...TMI lines get crossed occasionally

It's the internet. There's no real explanation needed.

Before Facebook, Myspace, there was AOL and it's homepages where you could customize and create your own identities and such. You've basically constructed your personal space, but it wasn't nearly as robust as the social networking sites we have now. We're a generation that's more geared towards self-expression and children born in the 90s are more than eager to speak more about their lives and share with them as such.

It's a natural form of progress in the digital age, so we just have to learn to adjust.

i thought myspace was more about the music scene or people involved in the arts networking...btw, i appreciate you answering the question:freehug:

That's MySpace currently. The MySpace back then functioned more like as the name implied: My space. However, there were artists and other individuals who were getting their music on their as a means of promoting back in its early times. Despite that, the majority of users were regular people, mostly teenagers and young adults who wanted to have their own pages to express themselves via posting videos, doing blogs on their personal pages or even just add content of their own for people to gain attention.

And not a problem. I'm in a deep thought mode now.

I did the same on FB - deleted some of the folks who were constantly posting narcissistic selfies. Also cleared out the friend list of folks who were Debbie Downers yet had amazing lives. lol Some folks.

    It's the obsession with celebrity.

Before the internet, the only people we could read about were actual celebrities in magazines such as People and the like.

Now, we are all mini-celebrities. We have a larger network of people who can read anything and everything we post, so we're looking like little celebrities.

I have a Facebook friend, who is also a real-life friend, but her and her husband live in Ohio now. Every single f-ing day, she posts picture after picture of her children. She RARELY ever updates her actual status to say anything about her. She quit her job and is now a stay-at-home Mom and her life has become all about her kids.

She's an amazing person, someone who you can't be sad around, and it's a shame to see her only focusing on her children and not separating her own life from her children's lives. I've almost deleted her on several occasions, but I just can't do it. LOL.

I have also tried to to add a positive spin to all of my posts on Facebook now. And keeping most of what I feel offline.

As an aside, all of the updates people put on Facebook when they're watching sporting events are out of hand. Do I really need to know every single time the Blackhawks get a power play or every goal they score or don't score? I don't even have to watch the games, I can just look on Facebook.

It's odd to me. It's like everyone turns into sports casters on Facebook. It's annoying.

    \rant off :smt043

Because I want to know how my friend is doing outside of seeing picture after picture of her kids, that makes me miserable and bitter? Okay then. Whatever. LOL.

I so feel you on the every day poster...who has time? I looked at my own page and my friends must wonder about me...it's basically a recipe someone posted that i wanted to have so I shared it...stories...pics of lil bub...supporting a cause...news stories of importance to me...don't get me wrong i want to hear about what is going on with friends but every damn day is a bit too much...i have a friend that celebrated her own birthday online for several weeks as she drew out what friends, family and co-workers did for her...god love her but seriously?
i have another friend that posts all of her travel...i travel every week as well but it's work so not really worth sharing unless i want to have coffee with someone i haven't seen in a minute...

My pet hate is people who post pics of restaurant food, I can understand home made stuff, you did it and put the effort in, but I have about 4 friends who constantly post anything they have eaten out from a ham sandwich to a roast dinner! Why! Just Why?
I haven't removed them from my friends list, just clicked to not get updates from them.

My other pet hate is the people who have had gastric bands or in one case in particular given herself a stomach ulcer from being addicted to ibuprofen (why you would choose that, I don't know) so she couldn't eat.

Lost loads of weight and they end up dressing like a 14 yr old girl (not all cases, one in particular dresses beautifully)

My neighbour (gastric band) now has her wardrobe based on a Disney princess, sometimes I don't know what to say when I see her and her facebook pics are worse. :(

I am guilty of occasionally being more focused on my kids in my posts, but I don't post everyday on my timeline about myself probably 6 times a year if that, just shares for my page and other peoples pages that I know, but I use Etsy more so nowadays for that.

This is the reason I don't have my own FB,Twitter etc... pages. People treat social networking like it's their diary. Some shit is meant to be kept to yourself.

Are you incapable of calling her? Such an "friend" you are thinking of deleting over her sharing her happiness.
