Cool, I guess this means they are going to go with Hal Jordan GL, because two brothers in a movie like this is a longshot. Also, why don't they just call it Justice League already?
Any idea on the timeline for delivering this one to the theaters? They had me the moment I read "Gal Gadot". Lol
It's going to be around July 2016. They are going need all the time they can get to even get this right.
DC Comics reboots Wally West version of Flash and makes him biracial. http://www.newsarama.com/20938-the-flash-writers-talk-wally-west-changes-and-the-future-flash-spoilers.html He is going to appear in Flash annual #3. His character is going to have a white father and a black mother.
They are bringing in "Wally West" because he became a very popular character during the almost twenty plus years that he wore the Flash mantle before DC decided to resurrect Barry Allen in 2008/09. As with Green Lantern John Stewart, there's a generation of comic fans for whom Wally West and not Barry Allen is the Flash, so they are bringing him back in some form for that reason since he is one of the handful of iconic characters that was not included at the start of the New 52 "reboot" of the DC Universe.
Yes, that's understandable. But to alter an already existing character is a bit too much, which is what I'm arguing. If they want to bring back The Flash, they could have very well created a new character who may have had connections with Wally West and/or Barry Allen and retain the biracial identity DC is aiming for. I'm not always saying it's a bad thing to give a different identity to already existing characters, but there has to be a sensible reason or explanation. Perhaps the multi-universe aspect can apply in this regard, but we'll probably have to wait and see.
Both Marvel & DC have been guilty of that for a very long time now & to an even greater extent than what's being done with Wally West. The entire New 52 DC universe is an example of that. The whole "Event" oriented fad that's been in effect for the last several years with both companies is always having characters act out of character more than in character in or introducing unrevealed elements about characters in an effort to "evolve" & push the envelope with the characters. Marvel's next event/stunt that they have coming up is called "Original Sin" where they reveal some major hidden secret or secrets about all of the Marvel characters that have been hidden for years.
Yeah, like they did with the Milestone Universe (great comics by the way). We see how long they lasted. White guys, on the whole, don't buy black superhero comics for very long, if at all. Unless, the character used to be white, is now black, but basically remains the same. They grumble, but as long as the writing is good, they stick around. This has to happen. America is getting browner and more ethnically diverse. If they want to keep selling comics, they have to "hook" the next generation of comics buyers. And those kids are more self centered than any generation before them and because of that, they will demand heroes that look like them. And, I'm glad of it. When I was kid, the only time I got to be Batman or Superman when we played Superfriends was when I played with my black friends. All I could be when I played with my white friends (I lived in a largely white comunity) was Black Vulcan. Who da fuck wants to be Black Vulcan? They just could not imagine a black kid with a big curly Afro being either of the big two. So yeah, I'm all for it. White men have stollen from minority cultures for all of recorded history. It's about time they give something back. Besides, there is nothing about Wally West or his powers that dictate he has to be white. Shit, he runs at super speed. Blacks been doing that since the first time a slave broke free and ran to freedom. With that in mind, Flash should have been black all along.
:smt043:smt043:smt043:smt043:smt043 God damn it! That is so fucking true and I thought about this years ago, especially when that Adult Swim cartoon, Minoriteam, pretty much beat me to do it in physical form.
I'm maintaining my optimism, but giving out a proper explanation as to why they are bringing so many characters onto the big screen. No need to follow the formula Marvel's doing, otherwise, it'd be a major copycat issue. Still, the roster's a bit funny....and hey, it's possible to see Aquaman in the mix.
They'd better get it right, or else it could just as easily kill the DC franchise as it could resurrect it. I liked Man of Steel and The Dark Knight Batman films, but they didn't handle Green Lantern very well, in my opinion.
It was a poorly scripted movie, though it did have potential. It would have worked better if they didn't try have story elements that made it too...campy. Which is why, I think we need a John Stewart this time. But that's just me. But back to the Batman/Superman movie, I think if they actually made everything fit, story-wise and Wonder Woman's performance, it's likely that they are going to use that movie as a platform for the individual superheroes when they have their own movies and would reference the events of the Batman/Superman movie as a template. So, Wonder Woman can possibly get her own movie and would then set the back drop for her adventures dealing with her villains and such.
I don't know if it's just me, or do Marvel characters in general seem grittier and edgier than the DC universe? The Dark Knight is an obvious exception, as is the snarky humor of the Justice League cartoons.
It's funny how you say that, but I would probably have to look into it more to make that case. But to be honest, if I'm going by cartoons strictly, then it's really not the case. To me, I view the characters in both universes in this regard: DC Characters = Iconic Marvel Characters = Relate-able And it's sort of reflected on their universes as well. Granted, the DC characters and their universes seem more organized and the heroes are generally well regarded as "gods" and something people would wish to strive for. And that includes non-powered superheroes. Whereas Marvel characters and their universes, they aren't heavily revered in the same manner as their DC counterparts and the world of Marvel is generally less organized and chaotic. Sort of funny when the crossover happened between the Justice League and the Avengers and they went into each other's universes, only to be described as what I wrote above.
I never thought of it that way, but you make a good point. DC heroes are upstanding, (generally) less conflicted/flawed/antihero, and there seems to be less disorder in their universes in terms of the societies, etc. It's them versus the villains. The Marvel universe is always one step from doomsday and the human society is as hostile to the heroes (esp. the X-Men) as the villains are. I really need to catch up on my JL cartoons as well.
A friend of mine told me of this website about two years ago and this has almost every cartoon, anime, movie you could imagine. http://www.watchcartoononline.com/anime/justice-league http://www.watchcartoononline.com/anime/justice-league-unlimited I never really got into the Marvel cartoons that came out recently, so my interests in them are generally low. However, I did manage to see some classic X-Men and Spider-Man cartoons on YouTube and that felt terrific.
