I have a bit of arachnophobia, so I usually freak out and kill spiders. But the other day there was a huge huntsman on the roof and I decided to be merciful and capture him to release outside... I went and got a container to put over him and a step so I could reach, and I was lining up the step ready to go when the bastard DROPPED from the roof, right onto the step where I would have been standing in about a second's time!! I've never seen a spider drop before! WTF?! Freaked me right out.

 

oh whikleydickly....say it aint so!!!!! i just leave my huntsmen alone when they come in and give them a name and talk to them when i walk past or under them. you do know that they come in pairs, yeah?

 

OH GOD are you serious?!! Cos there was talk of there being a smaller one spotted at one point... I assumed we'd just got our size comparisons wrong!

I can't deal with leaving them be - WHAT IF THEY WALK ON MY FACE DURING THE NIGHT?!?!

 

Tarshi, is this species of spider the size of a dinner plate like the Bird Hunter spider in South America?

 

Plus now I know they drop! THEY DROP!

 

Not a dinner plate, fortunately... But they do grow bloody big. About the size of your hand span.

 

did you hear a scream of geronimo just before the drop?

 

I have large hands. So, I would assume that it is a big spider. I saw a youtube clip of one spider that was the width of a dinner plate. It was huge.
