I've never had my Vitamin D levels tested before, never had it mentioned to me at all, had 2 blood tests lately for Iron level check and both times I've come back (anaemic) not sure on spelling, which is why I got the Iron tablets. I'm going to pop into boots today and grab some vitamin D when I do the school pick up definitely. Cancer? good lord my family is riddled with it both sides, that's all I need is another chance at getting it. lol On a serious note it's taken some of my family "young" "young" my aunt died of secondary cancer after fighting of cervical cancer then having regular smears, one of which gave her a false negative in the Kent and Canterbury smear mix up and she was one of the 9 women that died. Just 31 years old. This is the first time I've accepted any medication for anything really (bar antibiotics) the blood loss on a daily basis is so bad now, that I'm willing to try anything that works. Sometimes I can't leave the house it's so bad. :smt022 But you are right I probably should schedule an appointment to inform my GP of my intentions to find other methods.
I do drink Green Tea, sometimes I just fancy a cup, it's quite refreshing. The taste of it stops you from adding any kind of sweeteners to it, as It tastes foul with sweetener, so that's a plus.
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002405.htm This is a highly reputable web site. The link takes you to information about vitamin D, for anyone who may be interested.
My coworker is successfully treating herself of what you are experiencing now... with homeopathic formulas. She used hylands.com. No guarantee it will work for you. She did several trial and error attempts at different things on her own. However, I myself have felt like a guinea pig at times going to the doctors, and when they make you feel that way, it makes you say, "What do I have to lose?" in trying to do something for yourself independently.
http://www.amazon.com/The-Complete-German-Commission-Monographs/dp/096555550X This book is the most reputable government funded study I know of, regarding herbal medicine. Still haven't gotten my hands on one, but has been highly recommended to me by multiple sources. Europe is a lot more open minded to herbal medicine than the United States.
You should give your doctors more credit, some of them are open to, practice, and utilize natural remedies themselves... And give patients less credit as in some cases, they prefer the easy pill with instant gratification than to change their lifestyle, wait patiently for herbs to work, etc..
I think that many doctors are open to natural healing but the system does not support them in encouraging this. There is no money to be made in prevention. I don't discredit the doctors as much as the system.
I use D-Ribose powder for my CFS (it's also good for Fibromyalgia) & glucosamine sulfate for my joints. I've used other natural remedies for different things as well. I'm also a huge fan of chiropractics; regular adjustments & treatment for injuries have made a significant difference in my life (when I could afford to go on a regular basis that is).
I swear by chiropractic treatment for short-term fixes. Never had the luxury of going to one for "maintenance."
I use Magnesium for stress or when I can't get to sleep...it comes in a powder form that I add to hot water and drink...I found it @gnc...called "natures calm"
