Yesterday I joined Sea Shepherd Germany to demonstrate against the dolphin slaughter in Taiji/Japan.
We started in front of the Japanese embassy and ended the protest march at the Brandenburg Gate.

We were about 1500 people and I hope that many people who saw us, will educated themselves about what's going on in Japan every year.
A lot of celebrities (like George Clooney and Matt Damon) were in Berlin because of the "Berlinale" (a movie festival), so I hope we got lots of attention.
Well, Pierce Brosnan did notice us at least (as you see in one of the pics)

I read that some us celebrities are finally speaking up as well and are trying to convince Obama to put pressure on Japan.
I so hope we will be able to help those wonderful animals.

    Completely agree.

Don't hold your breath on Obama pressuring Japan.

So did the event make the news in Berlin? You should post your simply awesome pic & sign wherever you can, to promote even more awareness of the cruel slaughter.

I have a story on a mother separated from her albino baby in the Cove...devastating. Will post it shortly.

Yes, a lot of photographers and a tv channel were present.
I heard about the albino calf. It was also part of the speeches yesterday.
The baby was captured and the mother supposedly died from exhaustion looking for it.
    Heartbreaking :smt089

Please sign this petition against increase of animal testing in the US

    http://www.thepetitionsite.com/271/620/922/congress-dont-require-animal-testing-for-cosmetics/

we've got 27,329 signatures, help us get to 28,000

In 2013, China made headlines for promising to phase out mandatory animal testing for cosmetics. The European Union and India recently decided to ban cosmetic animal testing completely. So why did Congress introduce legislation intended to increase these cruel tests in the U.S.?

The Safe Cosmetics and Personal Care Products Act of 2013 (SCPCPA), H.R. 1385 changes the ways that cosmetics are regulated in the U.S., and would result in at least one million animals being used in required testing. Companies would have to pay anywhere from 1.7 to 9 billion dollars to perform these tests, which would increase both the animals currently used and the money currently spent on cosmetics testing.

These new regulations will place ethical consumers in a difficult situation. Both men and women require cosmetics to meet work hygeine codes and blend in with society. Cosmetics include standard hygeine products like shampoo as well as beauty aids. Neither consumers nor companies wish to increase animal testing or the cost of testing products. Please sign the petition to tell Congress not to increase animal testing for cosmetics!

    Knitters wanted for penguin pullovers

The Penguin Foundation has a global callout for knitters to make pullovers for penguins in rehab.

Penguins caught in oil spills need the little jumpers to keep warm and to stop them from trying to clean the toxic oil off with their beaks.

Knitter Lyn Blom is the receptionist at Phillip Island Nature Parks in Victoria and has knitted many penguin jumpers over the years.

The Penguin Foundation is based at Phillip Island, which is known for having a large penguin colony.

Lyn Blom says it's not just major oil spills that cause problems for local penguins.

"Fishermen might clean out a container or something while they're at sea," says Lyn.

"It's a continuing problem," she says. "We get probably about 20 birds a year."

One advantage of knitting a penguin sweater is that they are small.

    "They're very quick," says Lyn.

The Penguin Foundation also distributes the jumpers to other wildlife rescue centres where needed.

You can download more information about how to knit for penguins, including the knitting pattern and where to send the finished product.

    http://penguinfoundation.org.au/assets/Wildlife-rehabilitation/penguin-jumper-pattern-2014.pdf

While the Penguin Foundation's website says it currently has a 'good supply' of the little jumpers, the organisation also uses them in educational programs as well as selling them as a fundraising measure.

In 2011 the foundation raised money for a new Phillip Island Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre which can house up to 1500 penguins in the event of a major oil spill.

SeaWorld just got busted by a US government agency for violating the Animal Welfare Act -- and we may have a rare chance to end its animal cruelty for good.

SeaWorld imprisons orca whales in tiny, cage-like tanks -- and the USDA citation reveals conditions at the park are dangerous to the animals' health. SeaWorld is still defending its barbaric practices, but huge pressure is building on the company.

In a surprise move, a Californian congressmen has just introduced a law to make it illegal to keep orcas in captivity. This could change everything -- but SeaWorld is already mounting a vicious campaign to defeat this congressman's brave move. We need to tell the State of California that the public won't accept SeaWorld's imprisonment of orcas any longer.

California: Enact the Orca Welfare and Safety Act to stop SeaWorld's imprisonment and torture of whales now.

SeaWorld's actions are no surprise to anyone who has watched Blackfish, the documentary exposé showing how SeaWorld tortures these intelligent animals as they force them to perform tricks for the sake of entertainment and profits. But the Orca Welfare and Safety Act could change all that. The Act makes it illegal to “hold in captivity, or use, a wild-caught or captive-bred orca for performance or entertainment purposes.”

SeaWorld would have you believe that the captivity of whales is about education, but we know better -- it’s about profits. Through the years many groups, including SeaWorld's own trainers and staff, have called for the end of the imprisonment of whales.

But with recent scrutiny, the company is under more pressure than ever. After CNN aired the groundbreaking Blackfish documentary, the world now knows that Seaworld still keeps orcas like Tillkum in captivity, taken from the wild at two years old. This is dangerous not just for Tillkum's own health, but for his trainers -- the mental effects of being locked in a 20-by-30 foot dark metal container has seen him implicated in the deaths of three people.

This latest bust by the USDA for violating the Animal Welfare Act is just sign that SeaWorld needs to stop this. Attendance is dwindling at SeaWorld as the world wises up about the cruelty of the business of capturing animals for entertainment. Parents and kids are understanding that forcing intelligent, sensitive animals to live in cages is a cruel, unethical practice. If this law passes, we can stop this practice in California for good.

Sign on to stop SeaWorld from imprisoning whales for profit.

I thought it was particularly sad to hear that the collapsed dorsal fin that is so common in orcas kept in captivity is so rare in wild orcas... not only is captivity so mentally/emotionally damaging to such intelligent animals, but it's physically damaging them as well.

The incidents of aggressive behaviour towards trainers outlined in Blackfish seemed to me a sign of pure frustration at being so confined. Like they would reach breaking point and needed to demonstrate their feelings - particularly so in the example of the orca that grabbed hold of the trainer by the foot and repeatedly dragged him deep into the water - it was really like it was trying to prove a point!

    Help the forgotten Romanian horses!

    Please sign the petition:

    http://www.thepetitionsite.com/942/576/689/help-the-forgotten-romanian-horses/?z00m=20955310

Romanian farmers own two or three horses, which carve a miserable existence throughout their entire life.
They are being forced to work and being abused until death.
The mentality of the farmers is to leave the animals outside during the cold winter, thirsty and hungry, arguing that a horse who does not work needs no food.
If they can no longer continue to run on from sheer exhaustion, their genitals are often hit or set on fire.
As an EU country, Romania must be forced to put a bill through that obliges farmers to vaccinate, deworm, microchip the horses and provide for a reasonable accomodation, if they do not want to comply, they must be prohibited to keep horses.
Frequent checks would urge these farmers to treat the horses with more compassion and respect. Animal cruelty should be punished with harsh emprisonment. No horse deserves to have to pull excessive heavy loads while being injured, being neglected, being abused, only to eventually end up in a slaughterhouse.
Please support our petition to make it possible that the terribly tortured horses in Romania get a better life.

He and a bunch of people, the society normal would call "failed" is very activ directly on place. They travel again and again to Romania to rebiuld animal houses, to help in a direct way. They call him "The hard dog", but seriously it's awesome
