http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/world/396408/security-experts-raise-flags-over-whatsapp i ve been using whats app and it s actually not working anymore since one hour. i will not use it any longer. there s a good and cheap alternative to it, which is called Threema. it s encrypted and here is the info to those who might be interested. https://threema.ch/en/download.html
Thankfully I don't use Whatsapp all that often, only when I'm keeping in touch with a few people who live overseas. On the other hand, I switched from Viber to Whatsapp because Viber was buggy and generally being annoying with missed messages, notifications, etc. But, I guess it's Facebook's problem now lol. Although given how invasive and obtrusive FB can be sometimes I wouldn't really be surprised if Whatsapp's security issues got worse instead of better.
i liked using whatsapp for oversees contacts aswell. costfree and fast messaging, but it really turned into a complete spyware... *sigh* i heard just good bout threema, and for not even 2 euro its ok.
I thought it was just me. I uninstalled WhatsApp. Then reinstalled it. I read they're having problems and they are working on it. WhatsApp is just another texting service. It works through the Internet. Some people use it cause its free unlimited texts. Others use it because it's more private. If you don't want someone seeing your text messages, you might use WhatsApp.
Isn't texting free already? So confused by shit like this. Just sounds like another way to gather metadata
i ve been using whats app on my cell only for sending text messages from phone to phone. i hate using facebook on my cell and i only used skype on my home computer for free calls. dont know what s free for you TDK but here i pay for text messages off my phone if i dont book a flatrate on top. @ rita... the problem with whats app is that since messages arent encrypted- they can be read. there goes your privacy.
I'm the same way about FB for phones. The interface is less user friendly (and slower than Whatsapp) and Skype is just a power/resource hog in general. I use it every now and then but almost never on my phone since it kills my battery life.
I think many plans have unlimited texting nowadays, but sometimes you might not want to give your number right away (like if you e-meet someone). I've never heard of the app being discussed here, but I use kik and voxer all the time. A way to "text" and talk without needing to give my number right off the bat.
ok that's a fair point, people never use that argument even though I think it may be possible to block your texts the way you do with *67 for calls
You probably can do that, but I find the apps easier. I'm stingy with my phone number (too many clingy people out there lol), so kik/voxer work out perfectly.
I get it makes sense, just having a problem with the 19 billion dollar evaluation for whatsapp. Makes no sense to me
All that money it's selling for and it only has about 50 people running it, quite an achievement really. I notice some of my friends here are having a problem with whatsapp but one said she uninstalled it then re-installed it and it worked again. Or so she says on her facebook post.
That part freaked me the hell out. What kind of shitty world are we headed for when all you need is 50 people to run a multibillion dollar company. Its either an insane welfare state or the whole world being flung back into the days of serfs and lords if you're lucky.
