What an incredibly sad story :smt085 A young man dead over some bass. Hope that murderer gets the book thrown at him, he deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison. Self defense my ass.
History proves you're probably right, but I've got to hold out hope that those jurors are competent enough to see this case for what it is. Wishful thinking maybe.
Sad but true, they will likely have the victim vilified in every which way as a thug, menace to society, listening to that loud, scary hippity hop music, that was a threat to a white man with a gun, who was merely defending himself from the vile negro threat who was just asking for it.
To do that they would have to respect your humanity and not just see you as a negative stereotype, not entitled to the benefit of doubt, even when it costs you your life.
LOL messed up indeed man. I shudder to think I could get gunned down and all the perp's lawyers would have to do is vilify me as a black, scary thug and they would get away with it.
They were getting away with it long before that thug card came along. Emmit Till wasn't wearing a hoodie...that's for damn sure.
Complete waste of life. All the guy had to do was drive away. At most, it's annoying as hell to have someone ride up on you with loud blaring music, shaking your car. And if they ignore your request to lower it, oh well, it will be over in minutes and you will be on your way. No need to shoot in the car in cold blood. People are psychotic today.
No they don't. :smt009 You'd be shocked and devastated to learn the petty things people here heartlessly shoot another dead over... from a pair of sneakers, a parking spot, cutting someone off on the road, an i-pod, a purse (that the didn't even take in the end), a complaint about a neighbor's defecating dog, bumping someone in a take-out line, looking at someone the wrong way, waiting at a bus stop (one of our members was slain that way) wearing the wrong color, walking down the wrong street a 2x4 corner section of land that neither killer or victim owned, a video game console, a coat... All true stories...many more, too. Sadly life is devalued here, very sickened over it, very sick of it.
Well said Bliss, totally avoidable situation, the music was just the veneer for a Charles Bronson with a gun, who likely instigated a conflict and then got to use his gun after instigating things.
Back then they could do it for that negro to dare look at that there white woman, then they would walk into court and walk out smiling for not being held to account, guess things haven't changed much after all as far as justice or lack thereof.
Some people just go around looking for a fight. Looking to be offended or slighted. He continued to shoot into the car as it sped off, didn't call the cops till much later..what does that tell you. Feared for his life? Don't think so, Charlie.
Back in 1985-86, kids were killed for things like sneakers and bomber jackets. It didn't matter what race you were. If you were a kid with either of these things, or both, they were very desirable, so if they rob you, you were expected to give them up. If not, you're dead. The bomber jackets were the big sellers at that time. They were in various lengths and styles(leather or down) and were very warm and comfortable. The school systems in New York and New Jersey were very concerned about this. So, they asked kids who had nice sneakers or a bomber jacket to not wear them for their safety. Some people would simply destroy a person's property out of jealousy. They simply believed that it wouldn't have happened if they did not see this thing in their neighbor/friend/acquaintance's possession. It is a poor excuse, but that is the first thought that comes to mind. Or some people simply want to just want to be mean and satisfy a need to take out their frustrations on someone because they can.
