It's all about money. If black film makers can show they can make money creating sci-fi films, then they can do what they want.

I think they should take a page from the Shondra Rhymes book of success. Make a good quality hit with white leads at first. Then, blow 'em out of the water with the black leads in the next film.

Remember, Rhymes did Grey's Anatomy first. It was a huge hit for ABC. Then, she created Scandal starring a black woman in a typically white female role and viewers love it.

I think the same blue print could work for blacks in sc-fi. It may be what Grevioux may be trying to do just that with, "I, Frankenstein."

Dude created the Underworld franchise which had a cult following but not really a hit.

I remember Spike Lee's film Drop Squad, it seemed like science fiction, when in reality it was a film about a group of people whose mission is to "deprogram" black people who they think are not black enough or contributing to the community. I had not seen it, but this was Spike's attempt at waking up black men. Then came his attempt at horror with the anthology film Tales From The Hood. I recall a film made by a young black film maker named Jimmy Bond called Def By Temptation. Then Snoop Dogg had a horror film. Science fiction and horror stories do not interest most black people, imo. Kevin Grevioux and Tony Todd are, so far, the only active participants in sci-fi and horror. Well, I would put Sonny "Tiny" Lister in the group, but he has not created any horror or sci-fi films or shows. But he has acted in them(see him in Dracula 3000). I think if a person of color is able to look far and beyond the limits of their imagination, it can be done. The film Blindness was written and directed by a Brazilian and Danny Glover was in this film(briefly). But, I do agree that black people are more into reality-based viewing fare. Tyler Perry's films and shows are reality-based and they are works of fiction. The name of the game is money and the willingness to take that chance and go into that area.

Drop Squad and Tales From The Hood, are one of my faves along with Snoop Dogg's Jimmy Bones. Those Black horror flicks I've mentioned are ones I love to see again mostly because I love the sellouts get their just rewards. Ice Qube did a "Drop Squad" them in his video True To the Game. Oh yes in Drop Squad Spike Lee did a cameo in a fried chicken commerial.

I liked Tales From The Hood, because it reminded me of the old anthology horror films starring Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing(Dr. Terror's House Of Horror)and Donald Pleasance(Tales That Witness Madness). Clarence Williams the 3rd was well cast as the funeral director.

The Matrix films were very thoughtful and timely. As it is right now, humanity is so dependent on technology. Anime and martial arts films were very influencial(and still are). Acclaimed fight choreographer Yuen Wo Ping became a household word in the celluloid world(check out Black Mask with Jet Li, which was made about five or six years prior to The Matrix). Getting Yuen Wo Ping was a master stroke.

I'm still going to watch this film because of Kevin Grevioux. I enjoyed his contribution to the Underworld films(in which he credits his wife for supporting him during the writing and production).

Now that's plausible. That's a good plotline. Or the degradation of the ozone layer and increasing solar radiation killing off people whose skin can't handle it, forcing some underground and turning them into cannibalistic albino humanoids. Something between The Hills Have Eyes and a Morlock in a Book of Eli/The Road setting.

I don't want to end up in a tin of Soylent Green, lol.
