I dunno, Denver has never been "bitten" by a defense like Seattle's.

 

Seattles D won't be easy but I wonder if their offense can match Denver point for point. I enjoy both teams so as long as it's a good game, I'll be happy! I think manning has this one though

 

Broncos receivers are soft. Denver's defense is mediocre. 'Nuff said.

 

I'll agree that Denver's D isn't the best, but their "recievers are soft"?? That's some crazy talk Manning might make them look better than they really are, but they'll still get the job done I think.

 

Raider Seattle will mix coverages but 3rd down I assure you 7 are coming ( all 7 can rush) and the 4 will be in aggressive bump man, if chancellor defends Denver tight end Thomas as well as he played graham for saints and Davis for San Fran I think they should lock Sherman on decker and double the wr Thomas hell the more I think about it I'm convincing myself of a damn blow out

Well he also chased and smacked Crabtree's ass. I don't care who you are, you don't do that and then say 'hell of a game' to the very opponent you just knocked out of the SB, because of your play. That is taunting.

And he did the choke gesture to QB Colin? He's lucky all he got was a shove from Crabtree.

 

Complete different circumstances. Did you see that BS call? He also didn't say it to a reporter interviewing him. That's the distinction...it was lip-read and just happened to be caught on camera, not unlike the 50 other times Sherman is caught on camera taunting and talking smack, of which no one says anything about.

Seriously now, it's Brady you're referencing...he's earned his stripes to call out a ref's blatant error to him...Brady is not unlike Kobe, they get away with things lesser athletes do not... Sherman is not in their rank to think he wouldn't get some backlash, if nothing more than from the city and fans of San Fran .

The NFL is a tightly run machine. Hell yes he has a boss. A huge one, lol.

Ultimately though, he is his own ruler of his career, and he blew an opportunity to build a brand. Sure he's flavor of the month right now, but after viewing the engaging video you posted (to Andreboba), he could actually (have?) had a post-football career in broadcasting. Now a network might scratch him from their final list, because he is rogue.

Thus when you say his 'arrogance' was acceptable in that context, actually it isn't in today's NFL. It's very different now. In fact, players actually rehearse for such post-game interviews. Sherman intentionally went off script to settle a long-standing beef that belonged on the field. His play alone spoke for itself to let Crabtree know he's got zero shit to say about him now.. His focus should have stayed on himself, his play, his team and his win.

 

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Bliss again.

 

i actually feel sorry for the rest of sherman's team...he stole all the thunder...normally the news feed would say wilson and the seahawks or manning and the broncos...but instead all of the focus is on sherman...so while he is involved in backtracking and numerous interviews distracting him and his team the broncos are focused on winning this game...if the seahawks lose then sherman should be prepared to take some if not all the heat

i don't want to take anything away from him as far as what he has accomplished but he needs to dial back a bit and think about a long term career beyond football

Personally I think the NFL takes the notion of "sportsmanship" a little too far and it leads to things like this. Players can't dance after a TD or do big high fives or use the ball as a prop or make gestures towards the other team, blah, blah, blah... It's ridiculous. It's too much.
If you don't want someone dancing in your endzone, don't let them in there. Pure and simple. But the NFL wants to bottle up all the emotion of the game to the point that players can't hold it in anymore and things like this happen. If Sherman comes across as a jerk on the field or during on-field post-game interviews...whatever.

However, when Sherman took it to the post game press conference and started trashing Crabtree, that's classless.
By that point he's had time to shower, change, collect his things, and calm down. "Heat of the moment" doesn't apply in that situation. At that point, he's lucid and actively trying to rub it in. That leaves a bad taste in people's mouths.

To some degree, I don't even have a problem with that.
Hey, this is entertainment and everybody loves to hate a bad guy. And Sherman is obviously the bad guy. The real problem, what really irritates people, is when the bad guy acts bad and then tries to convince everybody he's the good guy or the victim. That's what Sherman does and that's what makes him a dickhead.

If Sherman had come out in the post game press conference and said something like "Hey, I let my emotions get the best of me. Crabtree's a great WR. I was just really happy to help my team out when it counted and I let it go to my head. It happens. The 49ers played a great game and I'm looking forward to going to the Super Bowl." Then most of this story would have been diffused and people would have moved on.

The next option would be for Sherman to simply embrace being the asshole. Do exactly what he did but maintain the persona, "I'm the best. Crabtree's a talentless cabana boy. Nobody better throw at me because I'm going to make them sorry, including Peyton Manning."

Be that guy in the post game press conference, on Monday , Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Holidays, anniversaries, his kid's 6th birthday party, at the movies, in church, during funerals, etc.

If he did that, then people would largely dismiss it. "Oh, that's just Richard Sherman being Richard Sherman. What else is new. He's a prick and he likes it. What did everyone expect?"

But Sherman is the worst kind of prick. He's a prick who doesn't have the guts to be the bad guy. He wants to act like a prick whenever he wants, he just doesn't want anybody to hold it against him.

There are plenty of players that loved being the bad guy and embraced it. They loved when opposing fans booed and opponents lost their patience and the media blasted them for being a bad guy. That's fine because at least those players were being honest about who they were.

That's not Sherman though. Sherman wants to shove his bad attitude in everyone's face and then play the victim. "Oh, don't judge me! Don't judge me! I was just trying to congratulate him on a good game and he took a swing at me. I don't know what was going through his head. He's such a talentless punk though, I can understand why he'd get mad at a superior player like me."

The problem Sherman has is everyone loves to see the bad guy get what's coming to him. Especially the media. And opposing fans. And Sherman has a lot of those right now. He might not view himself as the bad guy, but everyone else certainly does.

Right now the bulk of football watching America likely hates Richard Sherman and would love to see Peyton Manning abuse him all day long come Super Bowl Sunday.

The only thing they'd want more than that is for Demaryius Thomas to do the choke sign in Sherman's face over and over again, then have Erin Andrews shove a microphone in his face and ask him "What's it like to be humiliated like this by a clearly superior athlete in the most watched television event of the year? It must be devasting for you to turn in the single worst performance by a DB in the history of the game of football. Are you considering retirement?"

Another great post, man. Sherman didn't go around threatening to beat up every N word around him. He didn't threaten to deficate in someone's mouth and rape his female family members. He was just yelling in front of a white female. Props to Erin Andrews for not letting out tears to make herself look like a victim. BTW,that Bill Cosby pic doesn't fit with your post since he would glady agree with the Sherman haters, lol.

So is Sherman and many people in the sports world. We sensationalize football and their behaviors much like we sensationalize musical artists when shit hits the fan. There's hardly any difference in that respect. Plus, they are both adults and can act irrationally in the spur of the moment.
