If you are a sports fan you know his story, was a top prospect and had a scholarship to USC, a "friend" accused him of rape he spent 5 years in prison and another 5 on probation, until he got evidence that his accuser lied about the whole thing, he eventually did get a shot at his NFL dreams after all those years, first with the seahawks then recently with the Falcons but failed to make the regular season roster. Well the people at Giddeon Media thought it would make a good movie and signed on to make it into one.

After all the pain this guy has gone through life has really turned around for him. Even found the women he calls the love of his life.

I remember that story. His accuser, a young black girl had lied and had apologized to Banks in jail. She owes the money that the city had paid her for her"trouble." She admitted that she took the money and spent it. She and Banks became friends. But not lovers, thank God.

I sure hope she has to pay restitution to him for the rest of her life...he must have also gotten a settlement from the state...10 years of not being eligible in the NFL could have cost him some serious change

he must have a heart as big as texas to become friends with her after she robbed him of life on the outside:smt012

The settlement is very small. It's a standard amount, then multiplied by how many years. He told me him much it was and I was stunned how little it was.

I posted a thread about him and the California Inocense Project back when they were trying to exhonorate him.

Congratulations to Brian!!!! Leave that scurvy black bitch in the past and move to the creamy white gates of heaven!!!!!

I would have NEVER pled to a rape charge when I knew that I had never even hit it, even as an adolescent I knew enough better than that . . . but some guys get manipulated by unscrupulous ADAs and officers or they get ridiculous bail at arraignment which stacks the deck against them. Hope everything works out for Brian from here on.

This is an excellent warning on how evil some black women can be, speaking from experience I had one lie to the grand jury in an assault case against me in college, but fortunately I wore her down with Larry Legend, my lawyer, until she began to fall apart and curse out the ADA who was handling the case. It is a damn shame that an arrest, even one expunged from a case that has been dismissed, can be used as a black mark against an aspiring law student as he applies to the bar . . . change gon' come

Yeah, I don't think I could ever become friends with anyone who falsely accused me of any crime, especially something as serious as rape. I wouldn't even know where to start to forgive someone for that let alone become their friend. Brian Banks is a much bigger man than I am.

I really hope that he gets another shot at the NFL. Too many teams need a linebacker these days.

The West Memphis 3 is a rarity. Most WM get off scott free while most BM end up in prision for charges they had not committed.

A sad story, but happy that the most recent part of the story is looking up. It sucks that he took a plea deal when he was innocent, but I understand how frightening it can be to contemplate fighting and losing when losing would mean 10 years or more. It's hard to second-guess his calculus when we're not facing that possibility. I truly wish this guy the best and hope that the rest of his life is everything he dreamed.

The upper-class ones, yes, but not poor, rural ones. Class has a lot to do with it. Of the white men who are in prison, they are overwhelmingly poor.

It was on a tv program a couple of years ago. On Investigation Discovery or 60 Minutes. They interviewed the woman and she came clean. She had to come clean with Banks because she didn't want him to hate her in jail and when he got out.

    You may remember it incorrectly.
The way it happened it's that Brian and his lawyer taped her secretly after getting her to his lawyers office- this happened after he was released from the prison, she had up to that point not admitted wrong doing and did not care about Brian or what he thought.
She got caught in a lie during that taped discussion and eventually had to confess. That tape is on the webs. It shows Brian and his lawyer sort of pretending to be nice to her, and it worked, the story came out. In the interview, Brian states that he hated pretending to be on her side.

I have met him several times as I was involved in the efforts to keep him afloat while he had the ankle bracelet as he had no means of making a living. He is an extraordinary human being and has let go of any and all anger and have forgiven - but he is certainly not friends with that woman.

On a side note, people who are trashing black women in this thread: shame on you, the color of this woman's skin bears no relevance to what she did. Saying such things just drags this story down.
