Has anyone seen the flick Island in the Sun last month? It was on TCM on the films of the late Joan Fontaine. I had read about it and as of most movies of the era,the IR between BM/WW is mostly muted. Harry Bellafonte did a great job in his role as a upcoming pol in a Caribbean island. Hope for replies.

I remember that film. James Mason played the father and Joan Collins was Joan Fontaine's sister. And of course, Harry Belafonte's vocal performance during the fisherman's return. They didn't show too much of the romance between Harry and Joan. But the location spelled it out.

I saw it a couple years back on TCM. I love that network, by the way, 'cause it shows alot of old classics every day. As for that movie, it was very good and they were brave back then to even suggest an IR relationship. But if I remember correctly, it was Belafonte's character at the end which was trying to discourage continuing their courtship.

TCM is a what AMC used to be back in the days of Bob Dorian and Jim Clooney(George Clooney's uncle) Some of my VHS tapes were from films shown on AMC. But TCM goes a little deeper than AMC did. commercial free. It works every time. The Fox Movie Channel sometimes shows classic films commercial free.

And also that James Mason's character learned that he was actually a black man in white society.

I wonder if the book is as different like the movie? TCM is the best in getting more deeper into classic movies known, unsung, and cult.

TMC had a film festival showcasing the films made from either UCLA or USC. One of these films was a film made by John Cassavetes called Shadows. It was about a family in New York City. The family was racially mixed. I guess you might find it on Youtube because I doubt it'll be available anywhere else. Maybe TMC has it on DVD.

The book may be a lot different than the movie. Not many film adaptations are that faithful to the books they are based. The ending of The Natural was a lot different in the book than in the movie. The ending of Patriot Games was way different than the movie. It goes on and on and on.
