    Dating or Kick'n it?.

You know, as a single guy trying to go out and meet new people and groups, I used to stress over this question a lot myself, until I realized it really doesn't matter and that I should be straight forward regardless.

If its more than "Kick'n" it, I feel like both parties will recognize that! You'll be able to feel that. At the same time, I usually tell girls I'm not into games and these are my intentions (be it friendship or more) to avoid mixed messages and all those stupid dating games.

Just communicate, yes it may take you outside of your comfort zone, but that's the point, and it'll lead to less Heart ache in the end as well.

I have been single for a long time, so right now dating sounds good. I would love to have a serious, long term relationship.

Dating to me is just that...dating, kickin it, and if you are interested, some go as far to call themselves hookin up.

In the end, its all about communication and being straight forward with your intentions. Nothing should ever be assumed, if you want to save hurt feelings later.

I agree as to avoid hurt feeling you should'nt go long enough.

    Very sensible

In Australia we don't really make this distinction.. sure there is a booty call.. but we don't really say we are 'dating' so much.. you go 'on dates' but you are 'seeing someone'.. as to what seeing them involves is entirely between yourselves..

I find our way so much easier than "dating"

Same here in the land of the Poms, dating is an American thing. We simply say we are seeing someone.

This is exactly how we do it in America as well (at least in my little corner of America). An old friend of mine actually just texted me a few days ago asking if I was seeing someone...I honestly haven't heard the term "dating someone" since high school.

Now the underlined part is what causes confusion IMO. "Seeing someone" is a pretty generic phrase and sometimes the exclusivity of that term varies from person to person.

Here in the UK seeing someone = more than just a fuck buddy but less than gf/bf (most of the time)
with someone = full blown relationship

Don't understand the need for a title behind getting to know someone. (kicking it or dating?)Don't even really understand the need to use the term girlfriend, or say we "go together". If two people really enjoy spending time together then it is what it is. If there is confusion maybe there is a point where you should just ask. To me either I am single or married its that simple. I can hold that view and still be cognizant of a womans feelings.

Beasty where are you from? You must had been not knowing the words from the hood. You must had been living in Europe like BYT86. BYT86,I wished a lot of German women like you who want more frankness in dating.

If you have a good woman in your life all you need to do is show her some appreciation and listen when she talks sometimes. Throwing around titles and specifying casual activities only serves as a temporary fix. It is evidenced by all of the unnecessary pain and confusion you stand to cause later on. The pressure can start with the term dating, then all of a sudden just dating is not good enough now you must call her your girlfriend, then you just put yourself in a situation in which you will be expected to say you love her. That's the worst thing you could say if it is not true. To answer your question, I am not from Europe. I just do not see the point in complicating circumstances by using empty titles that generally should have been abandoned after grade school. One line of bullshit will always lead to another.
