People need to get the movies they watch out of their heads. Dude is human and an unexpected hit upside the head will daze and confuse anyone, marine or not.
One thing I will comment on is that a lot of people love to say how the media race baits but I didn't hear about this before coming on here. This a great story but I guess it only counts when someone dies. Smh

Thanks for the additional information on this story B. I hope these 3 losers get whatever it is that's coming their way(and soon). I mean your life has to be pretty fucking pathetic when you're an 20yo picking on some 14yo kid. And I'm not even going to get into how much I despise people who jump others. Props to Wen Jones and all other people out there who'll take a stand no matter the consequences.

It is a big deal because I don't know many people who would have done something like that.
I know so many young people who wouldn't even hold the door for an older or handicapped person.
Unfortunately we live in a world where things like this ARE a big deal.

Businessman Abdul Haji and a small group of plain-clothes policemen helped to rescue dozens of people from the Westgate mall. He had gone in search of his brother, armed only with a pistol that his father - a former Kenyan defence minister - had taught him to hunt with as a child. Bravery at its finest. We need more people in this world like Abdul Haji.

"I think I did what any Kenyan in my situation would have done to save lives, to save other humans regardless of their nationality, religion or creed" -Abdul Haji

Red Lobster Waitress Gets $10K Tip After Racist Receipt

By Stefanie Tuder | ABC News

A Red Lobster waitress, who said a customer left her a receipt with a racist slur, has received the tip of a lifetime, thanks to a fundraising from online supporters.

Toni Christina Jenkins of Franklin, Tenn., said she was shocked when she saw a receipt on the table with "none" on the "Tip" line and the N-word on the "Total" line.

"I was just stunned that it happened," Jenkins, 19, said. "It's not something that you think in our generation would actually take place, so I was just blown away by it."

After posting a picture of the receipt to Facebook Sept. 10, her story sparked outrage online, prompting a California man to take action. Matthew Hanson, founder of AddictingInfo.org, heard Jenkins' story and started an online fundraiser called "Tips for Toni" that collected $10,749 in place of Jenkins' non-tip on the bill for $44.53. :smt023

"It was about sending a message to racists that Americans aren't going to tolerate that," Hanson said. "We raised $10,000 within seventy-two hours. It was really amazing."

Hanson presented the check Sept 30 to Jenkins, who was unaware of the fundraiser.

"I literally screamed. I was so confused," Jenkins said. "I was just so thankful. I felt so blessed and so honored that so many people came together on my behalf to give this to me."

Citing a company policy that prohibits employees from posting a guest receipt online, Red Lobster suspended Jenkins with pay after the story went public, but she has now resumed work.

"We are disgusted by the language used on this guest check and it has no place in our restaurant or anywhere else," a Red Lobster representative said in a statement to ABC News. "We were in constant communication with [our server] throughout this situation and have extended her a high degree of respect and caring for what happened. No one should have to endure what our employee went through."

Some online commenters have called the authenticity of the receipt into question, but Jenkins stands by her story.

"I was just trying to create awareness that racism is still taking place in this generation," Jenkins said. "For people who think it's fake, my heart goes out to them and I wish them the best."

A rash of receipts left with racist remarks have made headlines recently, from a Papa John's employee who identified a customer as "lady chinky eyes" to a CVS employee referring to an Asian woman as "Ching Chong Lee" on her receipt.

Traffic cops in Melbourne, Florida, hand out lottery tickets to speedy drivers on Christmas :smt114

About 30 motorists pulled over for speeding on Christmas in the Florida city of Melbourne were greeted with a surprise: scratch-off lottery tickets, courtesy of the police.

“We’re just doing a little bit of a different technique,” Sgt. Jamie Rocque told Florida Today.

However, Rocque said the gifts came packaged with warnings or actual citations for drivers. And another Melbourne officer told ABC News that the lottery tickets were a one-time Christmas exception only.

"I can tell you right now that no one is getting lottery tickets today," Sgt. Sheridan Shelley said. "Hopefully nobody has it in their mind to speed and expect to receive a lotto ticket — that was a one-shot deal for Christmas."

Still, Rocque said officers paid for the tickets with their own money. :smt114

“It’s something good to do in light of the holidays. We’re getting a lot of surprised looks … people don’t know what to say,” he said.

And if anyone scratches off a winner, getting pulled over for speeding on Christmas might just turn out to be the best present of the year.

Like so much of Florida, Melbourne is not without its share of random news stories. In 2009, a private Halloween party drew an estimated 10,000 attendees, overwhelming the downtown area. The entire city has an estimated population of just over 75,000 residents.

And it's not a coincidence that Melbourne shares a name with its Australian counterpart. Back when it was just a small, emerging Florida town in the late 1800's, Melbourne was given its name in honor of its first postmaster, who had spent much of his life in Australia before coming to the U.S. Residents of the town reportedly drew straws, and the name Melbourne was officially chosen. :smt049

Soldier celebrates a white and fluffy Christmas after successful mission to rescue tiny puppy from Afghanistan

    By Daily Mail Reporter

When Aaron Eleby saw a defenseless, fluffy puppy while out on patrol in Afghanistan the Special Forces soldier from New York knew he had to save it.

Thanks to a charity helping animals in the war-torn country, and the heroic efforts of Eleby and his fellow servicemen, the seven-month-old puppy is now living in the U.S.

Friends and family of Aaron Eleby helped raise $4,000 that it cost to bring the pup back to New York, but the soldier said when he looked the dog in the eyes he had no choice.

'We were at a place and those people over there didn't really deserve to have any dogs in the first place,' Elbey told 10 ABC.

'He was literally looking up, like, "What are you going to do man?" ... like "What are you going to do next? It's your call",' he said. :smt059

After taking the puppy back to base Elbey started raising the funds needed to bring him home...

The soldier had to go away on a two-week mission but by the time he returned, the money had been raised thanks to the help of family, friends and the Steve Caporizzo's Pet Connection website.

The next mission however was to get the puppy safely to Nowzad, which involved a two and half hour drive on dangerous roads.
'He actually had to drive with a military escort because you drive around out there by yourself with a dog they are going to be like "Why are you doing this?",' Elbey explained.

The charity made the arrangements to fly Yakkul 6,000 miles to JFK airport in New York, where the puppy was met by Elbey's mother, who will look after the dog when her son is away on duty.

The soldier wrote online, next to a picture of his dogs: 'Took forever to get him home, he beat me back by a week. My parents are doing a great job with him ... and Naja is keeping him in line.'

But it was another week before he was reunited with the man who saved him.

'When I walked in and saw him, it was awesome. I'm not gonna say a tear came to my eye, but it was hiding back there,' Elbey said.

The puppy has settled into life in the U.S. well, and has made friends with the family's other dog, Naja.
