Plump would be slightly more accurate since the Greeks really preferred women who were more thick because the myth was, they can rear children better. That's why when you see statues of them, they are, what modern society would call, "fat". And it's true she was of "average" build prior to her reboots, but I think the writers really wanted to show more of the Amazonian build, but didn't really do it in the early stages because of the limited means of depicting females.
Like I said Lynda Carter will always be Wonder Woman to me. She had the body, the hair, and the blue eyes. Just like the comic. Gal Gadot would probably have to drink a lot of protein shakes. But, on the other hand, she would do fine with her figure and that would be a job for wardrobe and photography. The camera can put 15-20 pounds on a person.
It's really the acting performance I'll be more concerned about. That and the direction of the whole ordeal. They need to make franchises out of all these characters and Wonder Woman is a definitive example. Be it a TV series or a movie (preferably her own movie), Wonder Woman should be able to steal the spotlight. With that said, it would take a lot of effort bringing out the best. But the greatest issue would be modernizing her into today's society without making her look like a bimbo or downright cheesy.
I don't think this will ever happen. it is a financial issue. The movie people will look at all of the female hero movies and say they have flopped. And there is a lot creditability to their comment
This is where an actor has to do a lot of research to find the essence of a character. Not just reading the comics or watching tv or movies. But studying the history of the subject. For the role of Conan, Arnold Schwarzenegger had to do a lot of research like weapons and fighting, all the way to a barbarian's sex life.
When you look into the Tomb Raider movies, Haywire, Colombiana, and other female oriented heroine based movies, that dispelled whatever "credibility" they've had regarding finance. You're looking at superhero flicks that were trying to find a footing. Steel is what ultimately killed the superhero movie genre as a whole and since then, while there have been some successes, most of them were just horrible flops. Right now, superhero movies, thanks in part of the likes of Marvel, managed to get the genre back into popular footing. That and the three examples you've mentioned were riding on the coats of other intellectual properties (Superman, Daredevil, and Batman respectively - with the third being a botched effort) riding on the coat tails of their predecessors...all of which were at the end of their popularity (save for Daredevil). The bad writing and direction were just muddled and were clearly just for a buck. Now that has changed. Granted, there is some truth to what you're saying, but the issue is more to do with what I've stated above and quite frankly, a man shouldn't direct a movie with female protagonists unless they really understand and know what to do to keep them from being generic. Henceforth, if a movie were to be done, someone like Kathryn Bigelow would be perfectly suited in bringing the Wonder Woman franchise into the limelight and rightfully so, given her track record. It'll be a big budget, but you're guaranteed success. We can make that assessment, but more so how to adapt Wonder Woman into a modern setting. Yes, we can consider all that with in the history of Themyscira and how and why they would be less willing to work with a male counterpart. But overall, it's a matter of shaping the history of the land she was brought up, and less to rely upon what they left from. The comics were written during WWII, so it would have to revolve around themes of inequality, gender discrimination and such, but not too overtly to where it's being preachy. I think the 2009 animated movie did Wonder Woman justice and it should be a good model to follow to help bring Wonder Woman into the modern setting.
Wasn't tomb raider a failure? Also, even marvel hasn't touched that industry since electra.I also believe that wonderwoman is riding on the coattails of this batman -superman movie. We will see how it goes. They honestly blew whatever chance they had with the lack of casting of lucy lawless. Purely wrong timing. She's now too old and back then the graphics were too horrible. Yes yes I already know she was the voice of wonderwoman in the new frontier.
Critically, the Tomb Raider franchise were met with negative reviews, but it was a box office powerhouse, making both the first and second movies, financial successes. The gaming community were [somewhat] more forgiving, mostly because of Jolie's performance as the titular character. Still, it remained [mostly] true to the source material in its own right. Wonder Woman isn't riding on the coat tails of neither Batman nor Superman because this is the first time since the TV series, that she will have a role in a movie. But since this isn't her own movie, there's nothing to ride on at all. It's not until we see a movie or TV series based on her will it be based on the success of the Batman/Superman movie. Lucy Lawless would still have a spot in a potential Wonder Woman movie or TV series as one of the major Amazon characters. Hell, even Lynda Carter would make a great Hippolyta, seeing that the mother donned the suit before Diana did.
Lucy Lawless was my first choice as Wonder Woman given that she is tall, a brunette, blue-eyed, ball buster from the Xena series. It would've been a perfect fit.
I would agree...but she would have to stray from her Xena role though, which may be hard for her to do at first. But she would have pulled it off well.
Then consider getting your eyes gouged out and your fingers broken apart for trying to defile the grace of the Amazonian princess with that annoying war cry from Xena.
Who knows? Perhaps with Gal Gadot, this Wonder Woman might have a war yell. She is an Amazon warrior and for her to throw down, she's going to have to make some noise.
Denzel Washington Considered For Green Lantern John Stewart In BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN? Over the past several weeks, professional movie scoopers have been warning of misinformation being leaked out from Warner Bros. in the hopes of finding their mole(s). Perhaps this latest rumor from Nuke The Fridge is just that. Or, perhaps it's real. Who knows. According to latetest rumors the “Training Day” actor is being considered for the role of Green Lantern John Stewart. If this proves to be true, Green Lantern will join an ever growing list of members from DC’s Justice League of America that also include Superman, Batman and Wonder Women. What's interesting, is that Denzel was involved in another Batman Vs. Superman rumor just several weeks ago. Think McFly Think reported that Denzel was up for the role of Lex Luthor. If Denzel does sign on, he'll be joined by Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. Zack Snyder's Batman Vs. Superman flies into theaters July 17, 2015. And in other Batman vs Superman related buzz, Warner Bros. is said to be eyeing Joaquin Phoenix as the possible choice for the main villain role which everyone has speculated & assumed will be Lex Luthor, but it has not officially been confirmed that Luthor is in fact the villain. If Lex Luthor is not the movie's villain, which DC villain would Phoenix be a good fit for in this movie?
The Denzel rumor must be misinformation. I respect the hell out of Denzel, but Green Lantern? Denzel is 59 yrs old. I know he still looks good for his age but still. As for the Joaquin Phoenix playing Lex Luthor. I don't like that idea either. Joaquin is good at pulling off creepy guys. but a megalomaniacal tycoon? I don't know. Lex Luthor should't look outwardly evil/creepy. He should be more like the way Ian Mcdiarmid played Senator Palpatine in the Star Wars prequels.
Kevin Spacey and Gene Hackman both played the role of Lex Luthor very well. This Lex Luthor has to be played by someone older. I could see Robert Downey, Jr. playing the part. Or Bryan Cranston and Terry O'Quinn. For Green Lantern John Stewart, Will Smith, Taye Diggs, Morris Chestnut, Tyrese Gibson or Derek Luke could fit in nicely.
Denzel would be great as John Stewart if his take on the character was one of him being a strict, by the book, no nonsense galactic cop. Then his age wouldn't be a facter. Actually, it could work for him in the role. But, I'd like to see Terry Crews as Stewart. He's got the build, the presence and with the right direction, he could be great in the part. People say John Stewart's personality is boring, but I've always felt the same about Hal Jordan. When he and Green Arrow did their road trip thing is when he got more interesting as a character in my eyes. What I'd really like to see is Guy Gardener played by Eminem if he can act. Give Guy's a'hole attitude more Of a believable edge. Also, Jason Statham would make a great Guy Gardener. Plus, we already know he can act well enough to carry the role.
