Merrick McKoy allegedly shot and killed 19-month-old Mia McKoy-Phanthavongsa. He wrote on Facebook moments before shooting her that his relationship with the girl’s mother was the motive. The chilling message: ‘I told u I can’t live without u lol u thought I was joking now me n Mia out this b----.’



Merrick McKoy, 22, shot and killed his 19-month-old daughter Mia McKoy-Phanthavongsa before turning the gun on himself. Police responded to a phone call from the baby's mother Kimphone "Kim" Phanthavongsa, 21, who said her ex-boyfriend was inside her apartment with their child and had a handgun. Westminster Police in Colorado heard gunshots when they arrived and found a child and an adult with gunshot wounds.

A jilted Colorado man captured the moment just before he shot his own daughter and then wrote about it on Facebook.

Merrick McKoy gunned down his 19-month-old daughter, Mia McKoy-Phanthavongsa, in an attempted murder-suicide in the Westminster area, according to reports.

Just before the cowardly McKoy, 22, allegedly shot his daughter in the head and killed her, he posted a photo of the two together and wrote several social media missives explaining his motive.

“I told u I can’t live without u lol u thought I was joking now me n Mia out this b----,” he wrote on his Facebook page.

The little girl’s mother, Kimphone “Kim” Phanthavongsa, 21 had an active restraining order against McKoy following domestic violence incident. McKoy was charged with assault, burglary, trespassing and harrassment, ABC7 Denver reported.

The Monday shooting was his only way out, he reasoned in his final Facebook post.

“Don’t judge me had no choice,” he wrote.

Phanthavongsa, 21, frantically phoned police to report McKoy was in her Stuart St. apartment with a gun. The two had a heated argument and she stormed out on Monday.

Cops did not make it in time. McKoy shot the girl in the head and then turned the gun on himself. The father’s condition was not released.
Family members had said Merrick McKoy — who is accused of shooting and killing his 19-month-old daughter in a murder-suicide attempt — was possessive and had a criminal record.

Little Mia’s relatives painted McKoy as a jealous and possessive brute.

“He was the type to say, if you’re not with me, you can’t be with anybody else,” Smaly Chham, the girl’s cousin, told 9NEWS, a local NBC affiliate.

Little Mia had just hit had just hit a major milestone — her first steps — according to friends who knew the little girl.

“She just learned how to walk,” Vannatda Sivixai told ABC7 Denver. “What an angel. Whenever she smiled it was bright.”

Unable to retain this. Too awful. The only good thing is that these type of lowlife criminals usually don't make it in prison. There's a code amongst prisoners. A lof of prisoners have kids out in the world, and they don't tolerate child abusers/murderers. I know someone who spent a few years in prison. He said many of these child abusers don't make it 24 hours. I hope that's true in this case.

Actually, you want him to live. Don't let him die and get off that easy. Lock him up and have photos of his daughter all over his cell walls.

Mental torture. Have him under a 24 hour watch so he can't kill himself. Make him live and suffer.

 

update: he died from the self inflicted wound I believe on 11/25

the mother of mia was home at the time and fled the apartment to a neighbors in order to call the police...the police arrived to gunshots

mia's mother had a restraining order but woke up that morning to him standing over her bed with a gun
