Why are you surprised? There were no Asian or Inuit people in The Last Airbender movie based off the Avatar animated series which is based & influenced on both of those cultures, so nothing new here. They are trying to make money and they are not going to do that with a cast full of black Africans or individuals of Middle Eastern descent. All those "Real Americans" in the heartland of the good ol' U.S. of A. would have a fit.

 

That excuse is getting old. There is enough "ethnic" dollars out there to make this shit profitable if there weren't Tyler Perry would be penniless.
And this is far different than Avatar since this has an actual historical context to it. Not even African mythology born from the place Kemit which literally means black land produced black gods? It's really insulting.

 

Well..... you can take solace in the fact if they really need to project a dark skinned character anywhere in a script to take place in Africa, the make-up artists will again get a chance to try their best...............Remember, Imitation is the greatest form of flattery......

 

It's no surprise to me. Hollywood had always used whites to play everything from Egyptians, Native Americans, Latinos and even Asians(actor Paul Muni, Peter Lorre,Warner Oland, Ross Martin, Vito Scotti, John Wayne,Joel Grey, Boris Karloff, Christopher Lee and Len Wiseman had played Asian characters). Cecil B. DeMille's The Ten Commandments had a largely white cast(with the exception of actor Woody Strode). Cleopatra was said to be a black woman, yet Elizabeth Taylor played her. Black cowboy Bones Hook would be portrayed by a white actor in a film in the 40's or 50's. Sadly, it is all about making a film that the filmmakers hope will bring them big profits at the box office or ratings for television. The name of the game is to have a cast that is considered appealing to audiences. That is what is being done now. And it will continue, I'm afraid.

 

Welcome to America in the 21st century & the Age of Digital Technology,where the more things change the more they stay the same. Oh well.
