I need help in narrowing my search for the best reference(s) on the subject of the female mind. I went to Amazon and there are over 12,000 books on the subject. There are books on the asian mind, the indian mind etc... but I', mostly interested in how and why women think as they do. One could spend a lifetime around women and are still puzzled to try to understand them. I'm doing a project report for my human behavior class and would appreciate any suggestions from those of you who are the best in understanding human relationships and could recommend a book(s) on the subject. Thanks.

I can't help you with any books but women are so fucking easy to understand, you just got to hang around them more often.

When I was in the 8th grade, my mother used to read Ladie's Home Journal, Redbook and other women's magazines. In these magazines, I had learned a lot about the female perspective on sex. It was in the summer I had discovered Cosmopolitan magazine and I was literally blown away. I read books in the library like Nancy Friday's My Secret Garden, or Lonnie Barbach's For Youself, or the acclaimed book Our Bodies, Ourselves. But that is in terms of sexuality and awareness. The bible does state that the ways of a woman are not known. In other words, don't go there. And to quote the verse from song "How To Handle A Woman?" from the musical Camelot, "Love her. Love her. Love her." The rest you'll have to take on with great patience and good faith.

Thank you my friend. But, there is more to women than we give them credit. I think many of us take them for granted to our peril and missed opportunities.

Thank you, thank you. This is a great start. I want to get that book "Our Bodies, Ourselves". I think I recall hearing about this book some time ago on "The View".

Why not interview some women? While many women think generally alike on a range of topics, we are still unique and one woman's outlook/thought process will differ from the next. Come up with a list of 10-20 questions and ask a variety of women.

Men have to put aside what they want a woman to be or what they think she is and really listen to who and what she is. (And the same goes for women in trying to understand men.)

One thing that I think I can safely say every woman wants is respect. What that means to each woman is different.

Excellent suggestions. I never gave it much thought to do the interviews. This would be a great way to get feedback as well. I do believe that this might a better research approach. It might give my project a little more credibility by getting real time data and information. Thank you so very much for your input.

Put your questions here. I'll answer. Maybe others will as well. There's a pretty good range of ages and backgrounds here, although we're all white women. You may want to include other ethnicities too

I would be honored to share questions and feedback with you and others here. I will develop a list of questions that will cover several specific areas. I will present each separately in a post to get a good response to each. Again, thank you for your ideas. I will credit you for my research from this site Ms. Chesbaygrl.

Another place to go and look, is Betty Dodson with Carlin Ross online, This site has alot of info on female sexuality, which is part of the female mind.

Appreciate that you are trying to understand women, many men do not care or bother to understand or know their minds.

Very sweet, but no need for that. I will look forward to the questions you put forth and I hope you'll update this thread with the results. :)

Thank you for the information. There is so much we do not know about human behavior and it's impact on many levels of society. I find the study of the female mind fascinating because it's an important area of study in how females shaped human history from the beginning of time. Much of our world history is shaped by the influence of the female of the human species. We see this played out throughout nature, so why not take a critical look at perhaps the greatest force that shaped human history and that is the role women played. Did you know that the greatest force that shaped the thinking of General George Patton (perhaps the greatest military general of the last century was a woman, his mother.I plan to research this across cultures and not just this culture (United States) in which we live. Again, thank you.
