Brave boy, 12, calls 911 while he's home alone and hiding in closet as burglars break in

    DailyMail, August 26, 2013

A 12-year-old Texas boy stopped two burglars from robbing his home by grabbing a phone and hiding in the closet while he called 911.

Deion Murdock, of Port Arthur, was home alone on August 20 when he heard thieves outside his house.

He ran into his mother's bedroom and dialed 911.

'Someone's trying to break into my house,' he told a dispatcher with the Port Arthur Police Department, according to a recording of the exchange posted by KBMT-TV. 'They just broke the window, ma'am.'

The dispatcher asked where he was and he said: 'I'm in my mother's room right now. Please hurry.'

The dispatcher told him to lock the door and hide in the closet.

'I'm going to have to whisper now, because I think they're coming in,' he said.

'Do you have any weapons inside the closet?' the dispatcher asked.

He responded: 'No, ma'am. Please hurry!'

Then he whispered: 'They're in here.'

After a minute of silence, the dispatcher asked if he was still there. He responded that he was and whispered: 'It sounds like there are multiple people.'

The dispatcher tried to keep him calm and assure him that everything would be OK and that police officers were on their way.

'You're doing good, doing real good, doing perfect,' she told him. 'Your mom's going to be so proud of you.'

She called him a 'very, very smart young man' and said he 'did a good thing' by calling 911.

Once officers arrived, they saw two men flee the home and run into the woods. The suspects were later caught and arrested.

Murdock was unharmed and KBMT-TV later reported that his mother had left him at home while she had gone to the local housing authority because she wanted to move.

Incredibly brave little boy. Even in the face of danger, this young man maintained his composure and didn't skip a beat with his manners. What an absolute love.:heart::heart:

So glad the burglars were caught...hopefully that helps Deion sleep a little easier at night.
