Fear of Clowns: Yes, It's REAL! The fear of clowns is a very old phobia which people hold dear to them. Whether the basis of their fear comes from watching Stephen King's IT (Pennywise) or from childhood experiences regarding happy go-lucky people wearing paint and colorful attire can scare the living shit out of them, people always have a strong case to wince, jump, or panic at the sight of one of these colorful people. Well, NPR conducted a story regarding the history of such fears and it's fascinating how it traces back to earlier periods in time. clowns suck. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Mine comes from those terrible and traumatic jack in the boxes. That's a jester. I know. Still scary as all git out.
They need to explain why people get the urge to attack mascots. I can't explain it. It just comes over me. It is something that is natural like a financial disaster happening in nyc.
Jack in the boxes? Well, if it makes you feel better, just think of them as colorful male appendages wanting to say, "Hello!"
I have no fear of clowns. We need them( I know I did the night of my 23rd birthday when I was working a double shift at my job. I damned sure needed a good laugh). But, being a clown according to a nurse when I was in the hospital, is not as easy as it looks. Like acting it is physical and emotional. At the Ringling Brothers & Barnum-Bailey circus, they have a school for clowns. And it is tough. I once did have a nightmare about a clown when I was little. But, having watched Bozo the clown over those years, and going other circuses and going to Madison Square Garden in New York City in 1978 to see Ringling Brothers show(I especially liked seeing Gunther Gebbell Williams with his tiger). Like spiders and snakes, clowns do serve a purpose.
Serial killer John Wayne Gacy sometimes wore a clown outfit at his business to help perk up the morale of his employees.
