At a Tea Party Meeting on Monday, some crazy dude asked Republican Congresswoman Martha Roby of Alabama this question:

What I need from you is to know what you can do, you and your fellow non-communist colleagues in the lower House, what you can do to stop these communist tyrannical executive orders laid down by this foreign-born, America-hating communist despot?

And the amazing thing, as you can see in the video at the top of this post, is that she not only said nothing to rebut what the man said, but proceeded to (a) thank him for the question and (b) offer him a serious answer:

"Thank you for your question—he said it loud enough that you all heard it." Roby did not push back on the questioner's claims. Instead, she validated his fears. "Look I can't emphasize the oversight part of my job enough," she said. "And I think that that gets lost in what we do every day, because that's exactly what we're doing—we're chasing down these executive orders, we're chasing down these rules that are promulgated, that are backdoor legislation, whether it's the EPA, the IRS, go down the list."

So instead of at the very least just moving on, or even better, telling the guy that President Obama is every bit as American as he is, Roby basically told him that she's his last best hope—that she's the one thing standing between him and losing his freedom to that imaginary foreign-born Communist despot that he's so worried about.

Then, when contacted by NBC about her answer, Roby's office put out a statement defending the questioner and the audience. "You bet they are frustrated with this administration," the statement said. "Oversight is the appropriate role of the House in addressing the Obama Administration's oversteps."

This kind of thing is so commonplace it's hard to get shocked or even outraged by it. But the fact remains that a good chunk of the GOP's activist base is totally and entirely delusional—and elected Republicans are either too afraid to stand up to it, or are as delusional as their constituents.

Politicians are elected by the people.

People vote for people that share their views.

    People are idiots.

    Do the math.
