it's not a deflection..it's the world we live in. People don't commit crimes because they are Black....maybe you and paniro should know this by now.. People in similar situations do the same thing....the truth is never a deflection. Negroes idolize native americans all the time.... I've seen Black americans that look like pure nigerians claim to have an Indian grandpa...
No, people do not commit crimes because they are black. However, at least some of us come from communities subjected to these issues. Instead of discussing our own communities, we say "well, look at Russia?". I won't deny that it's the truth that it happens, and I think we ALL realize that already. I just don't what that particular 'truth' has to do with anything in this regard.
Why? Simple. We have had a couple of generations of black youth that have grown up without the proper moral foundation & respect for themselves or their own race. Throw in America's material wealth equals self worth /respectability mentality and you have a recipe for disaster for youth who are not properly grounded.
Since 2000, my city has had 10,000+ homicides, many remain unsolved. Our Mayor reached out to TIME Magazine with an OP, to be published July 29th. Stopping the Slaughter All Americans must come together to end an epidemic of deadly urban violence By Michael Nutter Monday, July 29, 2013 http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,2147723,00.html
This sentence jumped out at me: "The U.S. seems to be more invested in nation building in other countries around the world, Iraq and Afghanistan in particular, than in nation building--or rebuilding--here at home." So very true. I don't have a problem with us helping the rest of the world but not when we sacrifice our own to do so.
I agree. I do get why we do it, but frankly it doesn't buy us much stability. We have cities here dealing with our own problems, which also need rebuilding. Not to mention we just had a major city filing for Bankruptcy. Ridiculous. Time to take CARE of HOME first.
Agreed I think the black role model thing is overplayed. Most people aren't idiots they know the difference between right and wrong. In every field in life there pioneers. People should be confidant and not wait to see another black person be the first at something before attempting it themselves. Take responsibility for your own actions.
Being a role model for black youth is not about being a pioneer of anything. It's about showing inner city youths that they have options rather than the negative street/ drug hustle lifestyle or the entertainer/sports figure choices they seem to want to limit themselves to. We are more than that.
The people running shit don't consider this home just their piggy bank. Home is multiple mansions on several continents.
But too many either don't care or simply want to take the easy route. Or they're uninspired. You either need to be scared straight or inspired to go straight.
It could be something as simple as letting a kid see you read a book and encouraging him to do the same. The notion of taking personal responsibility does not negate an acknowledgement of the structural obstacles placed by others to stop black/brown/poor progress. You take responsibility and then you also point out the injustices that work against our collective success AND you do not hold our race accountable above and beyond the degree of accountability to which others are subject. It would seem to me that failing to do so is as damaging as the racism we are subjected to. It would seem to me that the approach we need is a fusion of multiple viewpoints, taking the best aspects of each. Capitalists take 'personal responsibility' for themselves. And their assets.
This is so true. Even just having someone in a young person's life that is committed to being a good citizen, parent, friend, family member. Someone who is disciplined, shows up for work on time every day, has good relationships and morals/values, who has integrity and principles. It needs to be a lesson to all of us - we never know who might be watching and listening to what we do and say, how we live, how we might (even inadvertently) affect a young person's life - for good or bad.
A role model doesn't have to be rich or famous. Just someone who can lead by example. That is why I always believe that the military is the way to go. I have always been envious of military guys. I love listening to them tell their stories of comraderie, their travels and the things they have seen, done and learned. I think if more young black youths followed those examples, they would turn out better than before. The same even goes for law enforcement and other trades.
Not sure if you read ORIGINAL post but I was talking about America....A developed country...a superpower (which we know is bullshit since 40-50million people border on poverty). But since you want to go INTERNATIONAL....why didn't you list the killings in African Countries? Caribbean? blacks in OTHER developed nations such as England, France, Spain??? I never said this was a unique problem in the world....but we are unique in this country. Sorry that my coon ass keeps bringing it up. Maybe I am sick of seeing black CHIDLREN...not men....children are slaughtering one another.
homeboy what part of the above is untruths? promise you on a lot of levels im there with you,, way past time for "us to quit blaming the man" and "get our shit together,, black kids using aint no jobs so i sell dope is played out im there homeboy i promise you i am, but this head in the sand attitude you have scares me, i have a homeboy who grew up very well but in the hood and he has forgotten being black and the real consequences that comes with it. i live in a very middle class neighborhood, white folks walking their dogs, taking pride in their yards the whole 9, but let a crime wave come thru here you dont think a neighbor or 2 want send the cops to my door to ask me some questions? i will never get "sububuran" enough to think naw its 2013 bullshit you believe
stop!!! tell me the last time you saw on the news white kids shooting up a p rican or black neighborhood sorry dude we usually kill within our groups always have always will michael jackson human nature
You seem to want to keep focusing on the negative when it comes to Black people, I and others have given what we think can be solutions to the problems facing the disadvantaged and what we are doing to effect change. I ASK AGAIN, what are YOU doing?
