I don't recall the exact crime. He was accused of slapping her in the face. Both people involved were black. the victim was a light skinned woman. I say this to point out that If I get slapped in the face. There will be a nice red hand mark on me. This lady was lighter than I was. so.... the cop can take pictures. I'm not sure which one picked me. I feel it was the prosecutor. I was the only black person on jury. there was a Hispanic guy as well. all the rest were white in a majority minority county. so... very interesting. People who saw the case also noticed how odd it was that it was an all male jury. It was my first time surviving on a jury. Looking back at it, I think the prosecutor chose me because of my background. The way she asked me a question and at the end coached me to an answer. ...... ultimately, we came to the same verdict as this jury for trayvon's trial. Most of us believed he had done it but not enough proof hence not guilty but not innocent.
Martin's parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, were not in the courtroom when the verdict was read. They later tweeted thanks to their supporters. "Lord during my darkest hour I lean on you. You are all that I have. At the end of the day, GOD is still in control," Fulton tweeted. "Thank you all for your prayers and support. I will love you forever Trayvon!!! In the name of Jesus!!!" Tracy Martin, Trayvon's father, tweeted, "Even though I am broken hearted my faith is unshattered I WILL ALWAYS LOVE MY BABY TRAY"
We used to be very much aware of that, when did this change? Who told us to let down our guard in the first place? Funny thing, you ask a Chinese-born American person where they are from, they'll respond China. Ask an Irishman-born American where they are from, they'll respond Ireland. Ask a Mexican-born American where they are from, they'll respond Mexico. Ask an African-born American where they are from, they'll respond America. America is not our home, I'm sure we'll have another reminder of that soon enough.
America the brave, the free, the beautiful.... It's obvious from the outcome of this trial that whilst she has a black president, America is still wrapped in her white cloaks. My heart goes out to Trayvon's parents, family and friends. Such a tragic loss
Fascinating. But you think the Prosecutor picked you? A Black male might be sympathetic to the Defendant... Well, clearly it bit her in the end. Though like you said.... how 'interesting' that in a majority minority... one Blk male made it. Must have been A LOT of jury strikes to achieve the final jury then. I would at least think they'd want Black females. Or heck even some white females.
Whenever there's a different application of the rules between defendants of different races, there is ALWAYS a justification for it. We must have not received the memo. Smdh.
Yeah, I know this unfortunate case well. The Judge's hands were tied by a mandatory minimum sentence law. Even the Republican lawmaker who created it said it was NEVER intended for women like her, but for robbers who shoot during the commission of a crime, etc. Having said that, she didn't initially claim SYG, PLUS she was offered plea deals for much lesser time, more than once. She refused and ultimately faced a mandatory penalty. Her estranged husband who IS alive to speak, also said she fired right at him and his kids in his house - she just missed. Plus, hard to claim fear of life when she went to his house, and after arguing with him, she went outside to her car, got her gun and came back inside to shoot him. That's not self-defense. Hopefully though, she will get a pardon/release from the Gov.
hmmmm.... There was a woman who was selected as a back up in case we got sick. Did I mention that the prosecutor and defendant were both women? To give the prosecutor and defense the ability to select who is on or off the jury, I feel askews justice.
the case was weak from the get go. that idiot jeantel going on the stand, the witness after witness making points for the defense when they were supposed to help the prosecution, and on and on. the way the media tried to make this about race and that zimmerman was white was pathetic. zimmerman is a mixed white/hispanic with black background in his family, the media portrayed him as a white male to fan racial flames, make this mississippi 1960. if martin did elude zimmerman, why did martin return to zimmerman and hide in the bushes, he should have gone home, he was less then 300 yards away. im sad martin is dead, but im not going to pretend that this was something it wasnt.
@ the sex of the attorneys, that makes it even more baffling.. :smt017 So how would you propose jury selection be done then? By what other method?
Where exactly did you get this information? Was it from a video recording of the event? was that on a conversation on the phone? between jantel and martin or zimmerman and the dispatcher? lack of evidence was what brought the verdict. I'm think if you ask those women if he is guilty. It would probably be yes but good luck convicting someone without evidence.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBtSN7-zoj0&feature=youtu.be Well looks like Miami has started things off.
that was the walkthrough zimmerman did with the investigator that they played on camera. zimmerman initially followed him and stopped the car when martin got off the road and into the houses. zimmerman could not see him and returned back to the car. martin comes back to zimmerman and hides behind the bushes. martin comes from the bushes when zimmerman is back in the car and circles his car, saying what are you doing, why are you following me. zimmerman gets out of the car, fight ensues, and then we know what happens. martin decided to come back. if he just kept walking and decided not to come back to zimmerman, he'd still be alive
It isn't that baffling. The prosecutor probably played on the male stereotype. Don't hit a woman idea under any circumstance. I don't believe that at all. I believe in everyone's right to defend themselves but only to an extent. The defense wouldn't choose a woman because they may be jaded if they were attacked by a man. at least that is what I think. difficult call on the jury. I want it to be random but I don't want ku klux klan members or other bias people to be chosen. You do have to pick out the nuts. It is just odd that zimmerman would hang out with 5 out of 6 white woman and a hispanic woman who are likely older than he is. The same can be said about martin. I'd say the same thing about the all male jury that I was in. just not what I expected. While I think that the women(prosecutor and defense) were playing on male stereotypes, inside the jury, they were correct about all of these men but me. as there was a vote on when you should or shouldn't attack a woman. I was the only one to not answer as it is the right of all people to defend themselves. One guy got on my case who had made comments about how the victim was not attractive to be his wife. I kept my mouth shut because my goal was to vote and not be swayed into a verbal fight that didn't mean anything in the long run.
