Ore, the Defense is going to paint that picture because THAT is the reason GZ claims on 911 he even noticed Trayvon. How do you propose the Defense present Trayvon? As a quiet kid minding his business when their client gunned him down? Let's be realistic.

I think its ludicrous to assume these women are "suburban housewives"...who are potentially having their latent fears ignited by the Defense -

In fairness, what about their fears as WOMEN of being followed and harrassed? Why not give them that credit?


I do understand your "bigger picture" in the overall scheme of things, but as much as the Rev Al and his co-host/author of the article try to further push their race baiting Agenda for this trial, if you allow them that, then how about the disservice they have done to White people by painting WP as inherently racist or latent racists, and violent against Blacks. It seems like you have bough into that stereotype by all the assumptions I have read.

Have you been watching trial? It's slow, often times boring, lots of medical data, interruptions, corny jokes, redundant questioning. If anyone was looking for the racially-charged OJ trial & glamor, they will be disappointed. It's not 'race" heavy at all (so far). Please understand also, while the Defense might be painting Tray as the first punch thrower, the Pro are countering it quite well, believe that.

In fact, the Defense witness today, an expert medical Examiner/gun wound witness.. my goodness he said he's tested his wound expertize using LIVE animals. I was horrified at this man's actions and sickened, and I KNOW the female jury were too. And come to know two Rescue animals? I bet they weren't feeling him.

My point is, much of the minutia of this trial is not about race, but more 'was GZ justified to shoot while his head was being banged" (defense) and "GZ should never have followed TM and shot him" (Prosecution). That's been the gist up to this point.

 

of course.....they play the race card. when they were choosing jurors that was one of the reasons not putting blacks in the jury. they have footage of mark saying it during the proceeding.

let me say it better....during selection mark is shown saying to scratch juror because they are black

Bliss, take a look at my past posts. In each post I have labored to stress that this is what the defense counsel is supposed to do. I am not attacking him for doing so. Igniting latent fears of black urban males as inherently aggressive is a smart strategy. It turns my stomach because it plays into racists conceptions of black manhood, but it's smart strategy. That was my reasoning for having no interest in criminal law.

Second, the jury does have a heavy representation of women. And they are not ground down, impoverished urban women of any race. Iowa is hardly a bastion of urbane, worldly citizens, no disrespect to Iowa. It is one of the most monolithic states in the nation: heavily rural, heavily German-American (not just white, but German-American). Also, it has been shown that gun ownership is a statistically significant (although not exclusively so) predictor of political views. As for the fears they may hold as women, I grant that may play a role, but I dare hazard a guess that minority women might be far less generally fearful/suspicious of minority males in general than non-minority ones. Or perhaps a better way to state it would be that they are capable of better distinguishing which minority males might be actually threatening versus which ones are just kids with candy and soda.

I have also endeavored to state repeatedly that I do NOT believe each and every white person is a card-carrying racist. I AM saying that race is the single most potent leitmotif in US society and has a provocative power unlike anything else in the nation. I am no fan of Al Sharpton and his race-baiting. However, I am a bit troubled by the well-meaning people on the right continually equating the damage done to race relations by Al and Jesse with the systematic damage done by 400 years of US racism and its ongoing pervasive. While not constructive, it pales in comparison.

I have been watching the trial, but not non-stop. At the end of each day, I take a look at clips.

It's useless to argue these points this way.

I suppose the next time pani wants to talk about manning up about something you can just ask him why he didnt just run.
And if he pays heavy consequences for his decision to stand his ground (especially if he's not directly at fault to begin with) you can also remind him that he got what he deserved.

So, let me get this straight...Zimmerman, armed and thinking that Martin is already suspect to begin with, what do you think would have happened if Martin ran? You don't think using Zimmerman logic that he would have shot at him thinking he clearly must have been up to something because he ran, because only a guilty person would have ran??
