I'm not married and I get a bit of a tax exempt status from my work actually. I'm sure that one tax exemption doesn't translate to me being an African-American, ya know. Also, yes...it's perfectly reasonable to suggest that marriage is akin to a piece of real-estate because, since it's officiated inception through theocratic government measures, women couldn't get anything, as it all went to the man. So that there is your financial security. Plus it applies to today, especially in Louisiana where we're the only state that still adheres to the Napoleonic Code. And lastly, religion is merely an institution cropped up by people. An organized structure, no different from a mafia. And don't be silly to think that I'll correlate religion to just one piece of it. Though, I'd argue that the Abrahamic religions tend to exercise the marriage = real-estate significantly. And please don't stop. Just keep reading and I'd like some sources to back up your claim that people marry for religious reasons.
I am all for equality. Equality for all. Some people fear equality because it means that if everything was equal, there would be noone in charge. I am glad DOMA is gone. What was the purpose for it anyway? Religious zeal? Ideology? Statistics? A combination of everything? This is a new era now. There are more people and attitudes regarding marriage has changed over the past decade.
Well...tax talks aside...it seems we are all happy Hoping the gay marriage ban here in Michigan will be gone soon as well, next few weeks shall see. Hoping it will be nationwide one day....think the ruling gave that precedent a huge chance
I passed through your state once upon a time. very republican at least from me listening to the radio.I believe it was i-10 or i-20
Here's the irony here. More than 65% of the voters are registered Democrats, yet the majority of people in the State Congress are Republican. But, it's worth noting that political parties don't mean much since the ideologies of conservatism are heavily regarded in this state.
