Ok, so I looked up on this story.

I mean, I don't go around thinking White people are anti-racist, much less folks with Paula Deen's pedigree.

There are probably tons of Whites more racist than Paula Deen who conceal it better.

 

The only thing that's gonna happen to Paula Deen is she's going to lose her cable show.

Most White Southerners who love her food and eat at her restaurants aren't going to abandon her for using a racial slur.

Paula Deen makes her coin selling fried butter whatever in the red states, so her bank account is safe.

It's funny that if Deen had called her employees 'cock suckers' or 'ignorant dumb motherfuckers', I don't think there would be support for her to keep her show.

It's still poison for national level politicians to do or say something overtly racist, but I don't think I like the shift I see in pop culture where it's okay for everyone else.

Non-satirical, non-ironic racism is not the same as Dave Chappelle or Sarah Silverman doing race humor in a comedy routine.

Why is it a big deal if Paula Deen loses her cable show, considering that she's probably a true racist/bigot???

True that. I read that her restaurant was full this weekend. And that she is actually a tourist destination for those to come to Savannah. That she is a huge draw.

In fact, the head of the city’s tourism bureau tweeted:
“OK, I’ll do it: what @Paula-Deen did was wrong, but she’s part of our @Savannah family and I’m here to support her.” :?

Well to play on Malcolm Xs words, Racism is as American as Paula Deen's Apple Pie. Y'all have a nice big slice now!

I think though, the 'why' might lie in the fact that she didn't say it 'currently' and that she was honest about it (and that it's used so often in rap and conversation, et al;, (albeit it's not the same as the original word, which for some is still up for debate, but Main st. America is still quite confused at its liberal use.)

Of course, her trying to explain why she used that word, won't ever excuse it. There will never be a justifiable excuse to use that word in the manner it represents, period... not then, not now, not by anyone.

So a general question one might ask is; since that time 'long ago' she said she used it, if she had genuinely changed her 'Southern way' of racist thinking? Because if she did, that would ALWAYS be a step towards positivity (ie: a racist, who is no longer), but if not and she continued to harbor viewing BP as such, then she has some deep problems to reckon within her soul now that it's coming home to roost for her.

Is anyone really surprised that she has support from segments of the public especially from those living in the south? She never expressed any real regret for her attitude or what she said in that statement she issued. All she basically did was ask people to forgive & forget her ignorance.
