M. Night Shyamalan: Thoughts?

Manoj Shyamalan, aka M. Night Shyamalan, produced some of the most memorable movies, few which are universally acclaimed as some fine masterpieces (Signs, Unbreakable for example...) and then there those which came up short on the critical scale. But looking back at some of this movies, including the more recent After Earth, I'm beginning to wonder as to why there is so much critical panning of his movies as of late. Sure, we can argue about his stories not compelling or the stories feel cookie cutter. But looking at the products he create, do you honestly think that most of the movies he directs tend to fall short even on a mediocre scale? Or you're just influenced by the reviews?

So, I have to ask this...
    1. How do you feel about his movies?
    2. What were your favorites? Least favorites?
    3. Which movies you didn't like?
    4. Why is there so much disdain for his movies nowadays despite having strong production values?
Lastly, any further comments or questions will be most welcomed.

I think the current bad press M. Night Shyamalan gets is due to the fact that his first few movies were very good & innovative to an extent and then he just started to coast on his reputation based on those films. Until he puts out multiple films back to back on the same level as those first films he's going to continue to catch flak from both critics & fickle moviegoers.

He is a Victim of his own success, the Sixth Sense was a great movie, just scary enough, just thrilling enough and sentimental.
The whole red thing worked really well in that too, the red church door the balloon and what not.
He tried to do the same thing in The Village but didn't pull it off, he is forever trying to recreate his Sixth sense success but it's not working.
I hated "Lady in the Water" and ony slightly liked "The Happening"

M Night has become a caricature of himself.
He's trying to re-create the 'brand' he invented with 6th Sense/Unbreakable/Signs, instead of just directing and writing quality movies.

I think he'll bounce back eventually, I'd hate to think he kind of lucked up into his early successes and has run out of juice.

I saw only two of his films. I saw The Village(which I thought was very original all the way to the end where all was revealed) and The Happening(the scenes of people committing suicide were very disturbing). I remember a psychic(who happened to be East Indian)say that he isn't going any farther than where he is. I remember he was on the cover of TIME magazine. He was called The Next Hitchcock. I respect him and his work. I hope this latest film, starring Will and Jayden Smith does well like The Pursuit Of Happyness.

    M. Night is egotistical. He thinks he is a genius, because the media blew so much smoke up his ass after Sixth Sense.

This video reflects pretty much my feelings about his movies.

Overrated is too kind a critique. Dude made two great movies (Unbreakable and the Sixth Sense) and one decent one Signs. Notice his great ones starred Bruce Willis so Im inclined to think Willis made those movies great not M.Knight. When your last good movie was over a decade ago with a bunch of shitty ones in between (I want my money nack for Happenings worst concept ever) you are done.

Signs pissed me off. What a fucking dumbass movie. That whole 'oh water, poof, aliens gone' was just argh!
Mr. Night owes me 2 hours of my life back! After that, I didn't bother with his movies, seen some on DVD and wanted to see the after earth but it seems to have gotten ripped by critics and audiences ?
