What do you think of this controversial British Anti-Drunk Driving PSA? I think it would be a great idea also for texting. Nothing like that to jolt your head back up. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/...g-video_n_3405193.html?utm_hp_ref=mostpopular [HDYT]TADO4LG29bs[/HDYT] Would it deter you if you were out having 'just a few' and felt you were ok to drive? I was at an outdoor concert yesterday and the amount of intoxicated concert goers was staggering! So much in fact, that I was actually slightly terrified to drive home, hoping my friend and I were not hit by an impaired driver.
this startled me lol I think it's a great PSA that should capture the attention from most, however I think it could have packed a stronger punch with the impact drunk driving, or as you said, texting while driving has on others. Great PSA though.
Definitely a startling commercial, but I doubt it would really impact those who are selfish enough to drink and drive. There are so many options available to get home safely, yet people choose to drink and drive every day. I just don't see any commercial really impacting someone who's that self-centered.
We have some here where the family members speak of the one they lost, and at the end of the commercial it shows the partial text that their loved one was sending when they died. Breaks my heart every single time...but do those commercials really deter kids from texting and driving? Not from what I can tell. So sad.
Any examples? I'm always curious. I love PSA's and their ideas. Very true... But sometimes if it can save the lives of the regular people who need that 'gentle (or not so) reminder" to call a cab, a friend or a loved one. I also liked this response... "And the ones drinking and driving, always think that it's all the other people who get in trouble, it can't happen to them; so they will drink and drive. Similarly to how drug users tell themselves, that's it's the everybody else who overdose and die. They are too smart to, they know what they're doing, they are not stupid. Right. Until that ONE time, when it is them."
Love this concept! God I hope it gets through. I think it has for me. I no longer text and drive - ever. I barely will speak on my cell, either. ********** This recent story made my heart just break... Tragedy as girl, 16, killed after 'texting and driving on her first solo drive'
This is a video of 20 years of TAC ads, you may remember some if them blissy
I was trying to think of examples as I formulated my response, originally. I like the analogy of the mirror/gunshot and the element of surprise they delivered in this PSA, however maybe they could have placed the person in the middle of an accident scene, with the people involved in that accident scattered about, sorting out the scene as it unfolded in front of them. I don't know, the way they left this PSA was a bit confusing to me, like maybe having left pieces of the puzzle out. But the shock and surprise factor was definitely creative.
It wasn't a gunshot, it was a head cracking through the mirror as in trying to mimic a head going through your windshield. Its not so much about the people in the PSA as it is about the people watching it, and with the end of our don't text and drive PSA,s, I think the message is powerful and clear. I think it was brilliant.
this explains to me why it left me confused. I'm watching the PSA on my phone. The head breaking through the windshield is a very powerful statement. Perhaps the only thing I would add would be a person carrying a drink and a set of keys in hand into the bathroom.
What a build up! :smt085 I don't remember any of these. All I remember is an Aussie documentary of drunk-driving accidents footage, which still HAUNTS me! (the wailing of the victims in mangled car-steel waiting for the jaws-of-life to cut then out) :smt022 And also this... Now they have also added this to the campaign? and... TAC still rock, I see. I once took the keys from a drunk friend. She begged me to let her leave, because she wanted to go fulfill a drunk-dial booty call. She then cursed and actually hit me to get them from my hands. I had to let her go. (I was 19). I remember calling her at his house to make sure she arrived safe. To this day, I THANK GOD! (couldn't live with myself if she crashed). I also won't get in a car with someone who appears even slightly intoxicated.
Ah ok, I followed your and FG's exchanges. I can see why you made your initial point. I did see someone suggest adding screeching tire sounds right before the head comes thru the W/S, but I disagree if only because drunk-drivers don't brake, even know wtf they're doing, or even know they hit someone, & half of them keep driving. I wonder if like the Scared Straight shows, they did for (non-damaging) DUI offenders a mock funeral you had to attend, followed by a jail visit where they scream, "is this where you want to live??" etc...
Yeah... I had a friend who got killed by a hit and run driver they determined was high on drugs at the time he hit her. Saddest part is she was an identical twin who had two small children and she was in the middle of a heated argument with her husband when she was struck and killed. They had stopped at a light and she got out of the car, the driver of the other car struck her and kept driving. Just awful!
