When I used to fantasize about Laura in the 80s for the soap opera General Hospital

There's never been a matter of accepting anything, because I've never had an issue with my attraction.

The first time I realized how cute black guys were was when I was 5 years old and had a crush on one of my classmates. :smt050

I don't understand the 'first realize' either. My first bm bf was in my very early 20s and I have always dated all over the map, all sorts of ethnic groups. I guess I was just lucky being in a very muticultured group. I think being in sciences did that by default. I never questioned it, or 'realized' it. It just 'was'. My family has never questioned it either. Ever.

Yeah, the realize thing is a weird way to put it. Like you said, it just was. I did realize at a young age that my parents had issues with it though.

I am so sorry you had to deal with that. I have been blessed w a family that has never, ever had one question about it.
My mothers concern was about hair... Too long, cut it. Lol. Never ethnic background.

In a way, it a good thing. I think it helped make me a stronger person. It's like I'm the only person in the family who never got sucked into the whole prejudice mentality, and it's always baffled my family. lol When I finally old enough to do what I wanted, I never let their ignorance and hostility deter me. It took my parents a long time, but they have grown so much and no longer hold to the twisted views they once had. I think it began when my son was born...they couldn't help but fall in love with their first grandchild.

Yep, you were definitely blessed. My dad had an issue with long hair, too. lol

Damn dude. You always make it sound like those of us born in the late 60's/early 70's were actually born in the 1940's or 1950's or even earlier.....:smt107

More like the 1840's or 1850's....:p

We're just so geriatric to TDK.

He cracks me up. He's only 12-13 years younger than I am, but the way he talks about anyone over the age of 35 it's like someone still in high school or just entering college. A dude in his early 30's and approaching his mid 30's talking about "those old mofo's over there". Wait....What??? :smt104

    No offense old timers lol
Real talk Ches it was more about region than age
And to me you guys are "older" since you've already been married and have kids.

Even so you still make it sound like the south only started becoming intergrated in the 80's or 90's. True most people may still live in segregated neighborhoods and a lot of holding on to ignorant traditions goes on, but pretty much everyone born after the Civil Rights era went to intergrated schools, unless they were apart of the super southern elite and went to an all white private school.

Was I the only one who just saw fannys comment as a joke?

I think everyone knows he was joking. That's why Tam, Ches & myself also replied in a light hearted manner. No malice at all from anyone.

I have always been attracted to Black men but I never acted upon it until my marriage ended. I was always faithful dating and when I was married so it only happened for me after a year of being on my own. I was careful and chose the right man and we had a wonderful year together and are still friends now.

You poor thing. You had to suffer a long boring marriage with some stuffy white dude
before you met a strong black warrior prince. Glad it worked out for you :-D

When my social circle started widening and having mates of different ethnicity around me made it easier and it didn't seem like a deliberate choice I just dated who I liked black or white whatever so I'd say around 17 yrs old.

I first realized I was attracted to white women when my family and I would go out to pick fruits at a farm. I was about ten, and the lady who part owner of the farm who was at the register was smoking hot, curvy, and was I think in her late 30's. She was very friendly and I like to go to the farm just to see her every year. I went on to date other races as I got older but once I got into my mid-20's I realized I loved white women the most. I haven't dated anyone else since.
