It's beyond stupid. The fact that this commercial was such a shock to the system for some, is downright pathetic. :smt018

I'm glad to see General Mills standing behind their commercial. The VP of marketing said, "We felt like we were reflecting an American family"...and they are! I just wish more companies would follow suit.

as i discussed with other people before..with commercials, you're definitely taking a risk because the point of a commercial is to drive up sales within your market. seeing them stand behind it and seeing the support theyre getting says a lot. the thought of 'pulling' the commercial should NEVER be mentioned

You're absolutely right, but even aside from pulling the commercial, GM could have just ignored the backlash and waited for all of this to be a forgotten issue. Instead, they've been clear about their SUPPORT for the commercial. That's what I appreciate. You don't see that everyday. Many companies like to avoid the spotlight when it comes to heated issues.

He handled this very well. So did the actress playing the mother.

Hallelujah - from the house atheist! :D

Probably because no one even cares what asian women and white men are doing. Asian guys are about the only people who even bat an eye at that coupling.

Racism still exists in America and in this century. The actor has hit it on the head. Geek, the reason such vermin has internet access is because they think no one can recognize them like a Klansman who wears a sheet on his head.

The Invisible Empire is shook up. As Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto said after the attack on Pearl Harbor, "I fear all we have done is awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve." Who is the sleeping giant? Progress, or the old days and old ways that had held so many back and the chosen few to advance? All this over a commercial. White people have been pitching products to all of us ever since television arrived in the late 1940's. Through the years, there have been commercials that features a black celebrity like an athlete to help pitch products(like Willie Mays in a Dannon yogurt commercial, Hank Aaron for Oh, Henry candy bars, Reggie Jackson's Reggie Bar). Then Bill Cosby pitched for Jell-O pudding and Del-Monte. Rodney Alan Rippey for Jack-In-The-Box restaurants. And, of course, the commercials for Johnson & Johnson products during Soul Train. But, show an existing family that does not exist on television, and it gets shunned like the plague because "This is not America", "This is not natural." What is more natural than to show a family enjoying a product like everyone else does? A product that was made by white people and is enjoyed by everyone all over the the country and the world(wherever Cheerios is sold).

There were a couple of black bachelors who wanted to sue the show for not allowing them to participate. I don't know whether the suit was settled. There were the dating shows that sometimes had a black guy on a date with a white woman. But, there were no marriages.
