On a note about this, have you ever seen the old B&W movie that deals with this very subject?

There was one lifeboat that too many disembarked on, and the dead captain's right hand man had to decide who to throw over. Each person had to plead their case in the middle of the ocean. It's a riveting movie! True story too. The crewman was put on trial after.
