    My Take

I'm as perplexed as anyone else. I don't really see it as a PC element as much as an uneducated element.

    I have no words...none....

Not to mention that the term "negro" used to describe the color in Spanish is a different pronunciation.

This is dumb, I don't know what the situation at the given time was, but just bluntly saying negro shouldn't lead to a teacher's job termination. This is a spanish class, it's not like she said any of the real racial slurs in a spanish vocabulary.

Yup. Because of my education in Spanish, I tend to say "negro" in the Spanish sounding way.

Yet, since there are black Latinos in many parts of South and Central America, and they aren't cognizant of the race history here in the US. They find it crazy.

Plus, she's a black Spanish person, so....where did it all go wrong?

There's obviously more to this story and this woman has a prior history with the school. They were looking for an excuse to fire her IMO because she probably has expressed bigoted views in the past.

It's just not possible for either a Spanish teacher to be fired for using the word 'negro', or for it to be construed as a racial slur.

Until something else pops up i am going with the fact that she was fired for saying negro and no other conspiracy theory bullshit. Negro means black in Spanish and was used by Spanish speaking settlers in the New World until some lily white white man decided to give it a negative connotation eventually leading to the term Nigger. She should NOT be fired for this.
