I've been with my gf for over a year now and Im sure shes the one for me. If it doesnt work with het my ass is meant to be alone lol. With that said we discuss marriage often now and prenups. I lovr her so much right now that I want her to be prptrcted in case shit goes south. No one goes into a relationship expecting it to nd but as responsible adults we are aware it can end and I dont want hurt feelings or high emotions to prevent us from acting fairly to each other. We should both be protected from our futureselves. Im protecting her assets from me as well as mine from her. a Its like buying insurance. I dont expect something bad to happen but I would rather be prepared in case it does.

I completely agree and I hope things work out for the two of you. I pretty much decided to stop dating and become celibate after this one.

Ok, I concede in this case. But how many people invest like this? I was thinking along the lines of money earned/promotions, etc while the 2 of you are married.

TDK, I have to say that the way you worded this makes me look at a pre-nup in a more positive light, particularly the bolded part. I guess it's the same as what others are saying, but your love for your lady colored how you wrote this and I identifiy with the emotion behind the words. Thank you for the thoughtful way you presented.

I think mindset is everything. I know shes not out to get me but we have all seen how ugly shit can get so iys good to keep that in mind. Pain can quickly make us forget that person we are fighting woth is he same person who you use to share all your secrets with and all your dreams.

I invest this much. And quite frankly just because a man is promoted doesn't mean his wife somehow made that happen unless she has magical powers. But I think there are a lot of women who feel because they stuck around and did basic stuff (doing dishes and chores as well as cooking are basic things that would be done even if you are single). The only time I can fathom taking 1/4th of earnings after a 20 year marriage is if there are children involved. I personally don't want kids so no woman is worth that much of my life's work. If I was a female I would feel that no man was worth half of my life's work.

Well, I think everyone should pay their own debt. I also feel that a prenuptial agreement shouldn't make anyone uncomfortable unless they have ulterior motives. Other than dividing assets acquired during the marriage and providing for any resulting children, why would anyone want anything else?

Precisely!! Like TDK said, a prenup is about protecting BOTH parties potential assets from their future selves. If I was a smarter youngster, I'd would have 100% of my stuff right now instead of 50%. I'll never make that mistake again...regardless of how in love I might be.

Well, we see things differently. When I was married, I did those "basic things" so he didn't have to. He was in PG school & medical school 1/3 of our marriage (and deployed off & on for another 1/3) and he was able to focus on his career without having to share daily household duties. The way we looked at it was we both worked for his paycheck - he did so outside the home, I did so within the home. That, to me, is a partnership.

Interesting pov. So do I owe my roommate a check under the same circumstances because they do more house work? Not attaxking just dont get the logic.

You're not married to your roommate. And your roommate's career doesn't prevent or make it difficult for you to hold down a job and earn your own paycheck.
