I'm tired of the rumors that Idris Elba is going to be the next James Bond. They should let the brother get some shine. He killed it as Stringer Bell on The Wire...he's a good actor...give him a shot!!!
I recall when Jaimie Foxx stood next to Daniel Craig onstage in England, the audience went wild. They were open to seeing a black James Bond, someday. Idris Elba as James Bond, imho, would be intense because Elba is an intense actor. But, I think he'd be a good Bond villain. Actor Colin Salmon(from the Pierce Brosnan era) could be a good James Bond. So could Adrian Lester(Primary Colors, Doomsday). Of course there are the purists who would rather have James Cavill(the new Superman) as 007. I would have to see if this is true or not. If Elba is cast, great. But, if Barbara Broccoli still want to keep Daniel Craig as Bond, there is the possiblity for a screenwriter to pen a screenplay to include a spy character like Bond. It is possible.
I think Idris would be great in as Bond or as a villain. I would also like to see him get a franchise of his own that he can truly make his own. Certain aspects of Bond's character (not just how he's described) are so quintessentially white English that I wonder how they would account for those. Elba was out of sight on the show Luther. I would like to see a character with Luther's flawed nobility, Stringer Bell's calculating mind and the Daniel Craig version of physicality.
Ian Fleming wrote the James Bond books in the mid-50's. he retired to Jamaica. If you recall the films Dr. No and Thunderball, there was, whom I like to call a "Bond Aide" named Quarrel. He ran a boat charter in Jamaica and was under contract to MI-6. He was killed in Dr. No. His son, takes up the mantle in Thunderball. I could see where MI-6 could recruit someone from that family and make a super spy of him. This man can be a Royal Navy officer, or an SAS officer. He'd have a different 00 number and he could be single and a ladies man, too.
Good idea! I like the franchise, so it would be great to see what else they include to keep it fresh and relevant.
I'm ready for a new Bond, regardless if its Elba or not. Three movies deep and I'm still not sure if I liked Craig.
Michael Fassbender has the charm and the cool to play James Bond. He might have the physicality for the part. If he were playing Bond as he was portrayed by Connery, Lazenby, Moore and Dalton.
Daniel Craig's portrayal of Bond was very realistic. He is a 00, but he has his problems. He's cold and lethal. Very clever. He didn't have or relied upon gadgets to get him out of a jam(except the defiblilator in Casino Royale and his cellphone in Quantum Of Solace). This Bond is just getting started.
I could see where it could work out if Bond had a friend/partner who would have his back like Felix Leiter(sometimes, if he were in the neighborhood and after the same target). Maybe he could be unknown to Bond and appears when things get really intense. I think Elba, Salmon, Lester would fit that beautifully.
People love Fassbender and hate Chris Brown. Always makes me chuckle a bit. Fassbender doesn't really come across as a blunt weapon. He came across rather well in X-Men and another movie where he was a roman soldier. But, as far as kicking ass like Craig... not sure about that.
Gorath, don't be surprised if in the next or future James Bond flick when Quarrel hooks up with Ms. Moneypenny.
Or that Quarrel gets the women and Bond saves the world. As to Miss Moneypenny, she'd enjoy the company of both men if she had her way.
Fassbender played Eric Lenscher(Magneto) very well and Lt. Archibald Hickox in Inglourious Basterds. He was in Prometheus, the prequel to Alien. He has yet to prove himself as a physical combatant.
He was great in Centurion, which was all swords and sandals, as the psychotic Irishman in Jonah Hex, and as the sick sex addict in Shame. I think Fassbender's best quality is his bloodlessness.
If Daniel Craig's contract to play Bond has expired, or he simply wants to move onto other things, I think Michael Fassbender could settle into the role of James Bond effortlessly. As it is, Craig is still Bond. Only time will tell.
